All right, hold on a sec. I'm not condoning this company's actions, but I've driven plenty of trucks with iffy steer tires like that. Yeah, these are worn, but it's not like a set of trailer tires ground down to the cords clopping away. I know what an investment steer tires are, and even as an O/O, I wanted to run them as far as I could. Remember, just the tread is gone, you still have a lot of rubber there. ( make great trailer tires) I too think you did the right thing, you don't need that , especially today, but just so you know, years ago, lots of us ran on tires like that, and we somehow made it. And I wouldn't give the name out either, that's not cool. I like the site here, would have killed for this years ago, but we don't know the whole story, and to bash a company because of tires like this, really isn't fair.

It's not slander if it's true OP, and you have the pictures to back it up.

Either way, good on you for doing the right thing.

    You accomplished nothing but protecting
    The dirtbag.
    You just wasted everybody's time.

The next guy won't know anything about this
Until he wasted a month like you going thru
    The whole hiring process.
Only to find out he's got to do it all over again.

Only difference is he's probably going to need
The money and drive with those tires.
When one explodes it might be you that he kills.

This is exactly why we continue down the rabbit hole in America.
Bad and illegal behavior occurs to which there are clear written laws and rules against but no one wants to hold those who commit these offenses accountable.
Much like a small child not held responsible for their behavior they just repeat the bad behavior again only ramping it up with each new offense.
Time to stand up and be counted and demand accountability if we are are going to get back to the great nation we once were.

Years ago DOT wasn’t cracking down on issues like this like they are today. And in recent years with incidents/accidents involving CMVs running with defective equipment (the fatal accident on I-70 in Colorado for example) law enforcement is leaning extra hard on us as drivers to make sure our equipment and vehicles are safe as a whole. You can’t just think you can keep rolling with bad tires anymore, those days have come and gone. If the owner can’t afford to replace those tires for blantantly obvious safety defects, then that owner has no business running a truck on the road-I sure as **** in good conscience wouldn’t want to work for him!

I notice tires this bad or worse all the time at truck stops. I have no idea how people get away with it, or why they would want to.

Some front end work, new shocks and tires, and an alignment really isn't very expensive. Even with a bunch of work and parts it is probably only $4k. In the grand scheme of trucking, that is chump change. If he can't afford 4k dollars in repairs, sell it and go get a job as a pool cleaner or something.

This is what gets me, these cheap cheap owners who worry about spending an extra $50 on tires that will last and run the junk they buy until they look like donuts than cry about not having the money to fix anything because they can't manage their business.

What enrages me is the Owner will coerce, browbeat or dominate in some way the scared newbie into driving that thing unfixed.

I have driven many rigs that needed serious repairs before. And I have known the fear of saying no back then. Today there is none of that. I would be the first to tell the Owner a few things. I must shut up. Firing has no meaning, just a resolution of the problem for me.
