Any of them I have ever heard of, I have never heard of any trucking company in the US that will not let you leave when you decide too.
That said you could quit most companies on good terms, and if you made them a hand, they would most likely hire you back the next year, if they have a seat.

Driver leasing companies, also known as driver temp agencies. I think DriverSource, Transforce, Driver Solutions are some.
-
Canada, or Alaska. You could also look tour companies near national parks, especially if you're multilingual. Or drive for a ski resort, those drivers usually work 5 months on in the winter, then one off, then 5 months for the summer.

When I worked at TransAm, there was a guy who only worked 6 months a year.
He'd take a 6 month lease, stay out the entire lease, then when it was up return the truck and go home for 6 months.
Maybe they will let you do a 5 month lease instead if you give them a call, or just manually terminate the lease after 5 months.Last edited: Aug 6, 2019
FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
I remember him; didn't he stay in Asia during his time off?
-
No clue. Think I only met him once and we didn't talk much.
One of us might have had to head out so didn't get further in detail.
Might actually be going back there due to complications with my truck purchase (JCT decided they didn't want to hire owner ops at the moment) so need to find a new job fast.Last edited: Aug 6, 2019

I may be possibly interested in this. But instead of being like the guy you mentioned on this forum who works 6 months lease than takes 6 months off to Asia, I'de be taking my time off in Europe instead.
How do these temp agencies work? Are you doing local work, regional, OTR? Do these temp agencies have a variety of work to choose from like reefer, dry van, dump truck, ext?
And if you worked with a temp, how long could you take off in a row before being considered laid off or fired? To other employers, you wouldn't look like a job hopper because even if you took a few months off at a time, technically you would have still been employed by one company the whole time. Right?
Do you know of any GOOD temp agencies in the Charlotte North Carolina metro area, Chinatown? How much experience do you you need to get hired into these, 1 or 2 years OTR? And are temps W-2 or 1099's usually? -
