You betcha buddy. The only reason I moved to dry bulk at the first place was because I wasn't getting properly compensated for work outside the truck with a deck, so I thought I might as well maximize my pay by running dry bulk on straight miles. Problem was the miles were very inconsistent.
But I have been missing deck work, and I've moved to a place that'll pay me $125 to tarp a 60 foot load, which is more than enough motivation to enjoy doing it. -
I don't have very much training experience, but you are doing the right thing. You can't force the trainee to do something that's beyond their comfort zone, but you have to stretch the zone on a regular basis so they do learn (breaking it can have bad side effects).
Giving them a break every once in a while will help them reflect on what they've learned so far without being entirely focused on being "on" all the time while driving. That, and giving them a chance to see an experienced driver do what they are learning to do will be constructive for them, even if many companies don't think so.Oxbow, cke, Crusader66 and 11 others Thank this. -

I keep hearing that lyric from Bob Seger's Fire Lake song.
You remember Uncle Joe ?
He was the one afraid to cut the cake. -
Great.
Now I'm hearing the lyrics AND seeing that picture. More clutter between my antlers I do not need. -
Just a heads up reminder. In some places school has started back or getting ready to so be on the lookout for school buses & kids standing by the road waiting on them.
Oxbow, BoostedTeg, Feedman and 22 others Thank this. -
I hope you are having them sign for all your time from when you arrived (or your appt time). They will pay for all your time if you invoice them (they did for me when I delivered to a new server farm in VA).Oxbow, Feedman, BigCam9670 and 11 others Thank this.

Picked this up in Nebraska / Iowa where all that flooding was last year. Wow!!! What a mess all that still is! People are still trying to get back to normal.
No more chicken fried chicken at Cracker Barrel. How disappointing.
Oxbow, Feedman, peterbilt_2005 and 23 others Thank this.
