I went through there school in 1999 and found it to be very good. They are very high on safety and professionalism. There lead instructor, who is still there I believe is tough but fair. There was a good mix of classroom and yard/road training. In 99 the school was 5 weeks in length but I think it is now 3 or 4 weeks. In 99 you had to run in a trainer/team deal for 50,000 miles. First couple of days we ran like a solo operation with me doing most of the driving but on the third day we ran more like a team as the trainer trusted me at the wheel, but I had driven truck in the past just not otr.

They are a company that has all o/o and companies with multiple trucks leased to them and you are hired by those companies.

I had contacted a company that was leased to them prior to contacting MCT and basically had a job lined up with them upon completion of school.

In 99 you signed a 1 year note for 3 grand for 1 year with MCT for the training and after 1 year of driving the note was satisfied.

They pull reefers and vans in all 48 and had non-forced dispatch. When unloaded you qualcom into dispatch then you were offered up to 3 loads to pick from.

I hope this helps but maybe someone will post that has more current info.

    Good Luck

I worked for MCT from july 2000 until november 2003. The only reason I left is because the fleet owner I was working for retired and I bought one of his trucks and went on my own. I did not go through there school but only heard good things about it. To be honest, I wish I would have known about them in 1996 when I started driving school with another large company. I was very happy there. I loved the non-forced dispatch and the fact you can run plenty of miles. I will say this; If you have problems with your fleet owner, don't give up on MCT. talk to another fleet owner as the pay and treatment of drivers vary from one owner to another. The owner I originally started with was a total butthead and I ended up quitting him and went to another owner within three months. It was night and day difference and the best move I ever made. I still consider the second owner and his wife as very good friends to this day.

hope this helps and good luck

Eskimo, Thank you for your post here,

I'm going to start class with MCT (2nd time, 1st was 13 years ago. :)) at the end of this month. Back then we didn't need to commit to 1 year or pay up on the training. I was with Kron trucking (Ted and Kathy Kron based out of Sioux Falls.)

I'm nervous but ready to give it another go. Going with what was up until a couple months ago RCO trucking out of Sioux Falls.

Now owned by a different gentlemen (Tim Schenk /Schenk Trucking, Inc.)

With the trainer .12 for every team mile for 5-6 weeks. (Around $2200 gross per mo.)

Then .28cmp for who knows how long...vague at best." It varies"
    (Around $2700-$2800 gross. per mo.)

Anything over 12k miles per month for solo run pays .29 cpm for all miles in that month. ($3300-$3400 gross.)

I figured not bad for paying your first year dues.

Would like to eventually go owner operator...someday. But as I have learned in the past; all that glitters....

The training I received back in 1996 was great very friendly and patient...This is still the good ol' Midwest. We'll see what has changed in 13 years...I willing to bet it only got better.

Hey there 57104 I went through the MCT school back in December 99 and also drove for Kron out of sf. I had a pleasant experience with this company as well.

It is a small world. Ted and Kay Kron is the second owner that I referred to in my previous post. They were great people to work for and great friends. I must tell you though that Ted passed away this past spring. They found the cancer last fall.

By the way, I am back with Coast again and have been for almost a year now. I am here as a fleet owner now though. Some things have changed here. The biggest one being the leniancy that we used to have on logbooks. I hope you are prepared to run legal. That is really the only relevant difference from when I was here before though. Pretty much all the same dispatchers and office personnel and most of the same customers and loads.

Thank you carramrod for the mention, it really is a small world.

Eskimo, very sorry to hear about Ted. He came out to Rapid in the middle of the night to pick me and my trainer up once.....very long story, put it this way the rubber was no longer on the road.

Ted never once got pissed at me about it. Just brought us back to SF and tossed us another set of keys and said, "Let's try this again!"

Do you know if Kay still lives out on Ellis Rd.?

Additionally, congrats on being a fleet owner w/MCT. No big deal on the log books, I wasn't around long enough 13 years ago to develop any bad habits :)

Yep, she still lives out there on Ellis. She comes to town once a week and visits the folks at Coast and picks up the newspapers.

It crossed my mind to go back to MCT recently but they don't hire out of AZ and i would have to go back through the school as well. Plus I have a pretty good local job and a little one at home. Yeah Ted and Kay were pretty good people to work for. He would always give me a routing on trips if needed.
