If are paying nearly 2 grand a week for tickets, repairs and damage a week maybe it's time to hire a better driver for the truck.

I start working next week on my own rig/trailer and authority. I have no loans and bought everything outright. I'm capable of maintaining my vehicle and do most of the repairs. I have a clean license for 16 years with no tickets or crashes either which is a feat in and of itself considering I worked on the road all my life in NYC. Everything from vans, trucks and limos.

I am in touch with a few hotshotters and one of them is a family member. I do the accounting for him.
He rents a truck, rents a trailer, pays for gas and 10% from the gross. His monthly expenses are around the 10k mark including minor repairs, tolls and food. He is responsible for trailer maintenance and pays 2250 for the truck a month which is on par with what enterprise lease costs. Owner of the truck is responsible for maintenance and repairs. He takes home 8-10k a month after all that. The truck doesn't break down every week and neither does the trailer. So far no damage or tickets since he started a few months ago. I am in touch with the truck's owner, he owns 25 of them. He makes very good money. His drivers don't destroy his trucks, get many tickets or cause any damage often. He keeps them happy and loaded. You won't make much profit off a single truck unless you drive it yourself.

@FlaSwampRat Just because you don't know any successful hotshotters doesn't mean there aren't any. There wouldn't be so much of them if it was as bad as you say. Not all drivers destroy trucks, crash, damage the load and collect tickets weekly. It does happen sometimes, but it shouldn't happen often enough to have to pay $16,000 a month for it.

I'll be back on here in a couple of months to compare my actual numbers and prove my claim.

Post his profit loss statement. It doesn’t show any personal info.

I don't need ya to prove your claim ..I really don't care. It's like a fleece purchase. Just cause a few guys do it well (you obviously) doesn't mean the system isnt broken. If you are do experienced in this as you say you are then you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Right now is one of the worst time to get into trucking because the overall economy is slowing down. And next year is election year and will be even slower. So, if anyone starts a new authority and survive the next 2 years, they would have beaten the odds.
