That is a criminal violation. If it was a felony conviction it will likely always affect you. If it was a misdemeanor, most companies don't care after about 5 years. If you get term'ed for having a firearm, asuming they don't try to have you arrested, you will have a "terminated for company policy violation" on your actual DAC report. There is no entry on there of the actual violation, but many companies will either not hire unless you have a period of employment after that or will look harder at your past employment.

BTW, Your criminal record is pulled and archived by USIS, but is a separate report from your "DAC" report. DAC only serves to blackball drivers, both good and bad.

I was at the GATS Dallas 2009 Truck show and spoke to the Texas D.O.T and there is NO law that you can't have a firearm in your commercial vehicle in the state of Texas.

Also you need to check with your company's policy
    ( IF YOUR A COMPANY DRIVER )

Most companies say in there driver's contract that you are not allowed to have a firearm in there company vehicle to protect yourself from harm.

Personally I'd rather be fired by one then be carried by six.

Even if you have a firearm onboard and are forced to use it in self defence and it saved your life and or others, which would you rather have be fired or still be alive?

The despatchers and company big shots are not there with you when your in the middle of nowhere and are confronted with some homicdal maniac wanting to kill you or rob you for 7.00

    R.I.P JASON

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE A FIREARM IN YOUR BIG TRUCK. *

    * You need to comply with each State's Law's

If you ask most people they will tell you you are not allowed to carry in a commerical vehicle and they believe this because for the longest time Transport Companies have been telling drivers that is illegal to have a firearm in a commerical vehicle, thus putting the blame on the D.O.T not the transport company.

And all this to cover their butt's in case a driver decides to protect him or her self in a violent situation.

I have my conceal carry license and make every attempt to obide by the law of the particular state that I'm in or even passing thru.

Before I go into a State that does not allow you to have a loaded firearm I pull over, unload, and lock my pistol in a secure case in a seperate compartment from the driver and store the ammo in a different place.

Yes this is a pain in the butt, but i'd rather be in compliance with the law than not.

It's a huge responsibility carrying a firearm, Personally if you do not have a conceal carry licence, I urge you to go get one it makes it alot easier when you get pulled over and you mention you have a firearm on board.

If your not able to get a conceal carry license then I would still have a firearm on board but not carry it with you.

And for heavens sake make sure your truck is locked at all times and even better lock up your firearm also when your driving or going for a shower etc.

I have carried for almost three years and have had many inspections and I tell the officers immediately that I have a firearm on board and with my CDL I give them my CCW permit and ask them how they want to proceed.

Most ask you where it is and if it's loaded , as long as it's not on your person they are not really intrested. Most of the time. Again depending on what state you're traveling in.

I have been pulled over in a state that I'm allowed to conceal carry and I have had my sidearm taken from me, unloaded, and taken to his patrol car, then he did his D.O.T inspection. Afterward returning my sidearm and instructing me not to load it until he is gone.

    Have a good day.

This is the information that I have found out and experienced.

It is be no means legal advise, and I encourage you to look into it yourself.

In a way I would love to carry a handgun in my truck just for the very reason of safety but there are places like that #### hole truck stop right there at I-20 and Hwy-80 in Cuba, AL. where a many of people have been held up. However because of all the #### you hear on the CB between a couple other drivers while your trying to get info or something and all you hear is "get out of your truck and come over to mine so I can whoop your ###. No you get out and come over here and I'll kick your ###. Here I am whatcha gonna do? WTF you gonna do, get the fcuk outta my, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah." What do you think will happen with drivers like them being allowed to carry a gun and being hot headed. Soembody if not a good few will end up killing each other and possibly getting some poor inoccent by-stander hurt or even killed. So I'm looking both way's in the case of carrying a fire arm in the truck.

There is NO federal law prohibiting possession of a firearm in a commercial vehicle. Period! That is a myth that has been around for years. Although some companies and driving schools make reference to the federal law in their handbooks, it does not exist. If you run across someone who insists it does exist, ask them to show it to you. There are most definitely company policies against possessing firearms in their trucks, and that is an issue between the driver and company. In addition, gun laws will change from state to state in your travels. It is a good idea to check the gun laws in the various states you intend to pass through before going.
There is no law forbiding it. You fall under the same laws as any citizen would. Here's a good website that will show what states honor your CCW permit. Just click on the Permit Maps tab.

There is NO Federal Law saying that it is illegal, only city, county and state laws that make it illegal to do so.
(and the policies set forth by the "companies" are NOT "LAWS", just rules.)

The actual Federal Law is listed below:

Title 18 Setcion 926(a). The peacable journey law.
    TITLE 18-CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
    PART I-CRIMES
    CHAPTER 44-FIREARMS
Sec. 926A. Interstate transportation of firearms
Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or
regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person
who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting,
shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a
firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully
possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully
possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the
firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being
transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the
passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in
the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's
compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked
container other than the glove compartment or console.

    As to Shippers/Recievers........

    Your sleeper is your "HOME".
As such, they cannot enter or "search" in any manner.
What is or is not in your sleeper is NONE of their business.

LEAVE IT IN THERE, and keep your mouth shut.

In all my miles and years, my gun NEVER jumped out at a customers dock and caused a single problem.

Besides, you don't carry for the customers property, you carry for those dark deserted pulloffs at 3am.

I'll sum it up. REGINAL DENNING. (might have spelled his name wrong) Thats the kinda situation that worries me the most. They were not the least bit interested in his cargo or his truck. They just wanted to kill him. A clear case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Could happen to any of us. Most delivery terminals also happen to be in the crappiest part of town. Rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

    My .02 cents
