To run a hometime fleet you must live within 150 miles of a terminal or yard. That is because you slip seat with another driver. Right now Roehl has very limited openings on the Hometime fleets because of the slow down in freight. Most people complain about TMC because they are super anal about thier trucks and will let you go at the drop of a dime. Remeber at the end of the day the truck is a tool used to make money.

Your right ETCH5858. Without the truck, your out of buisness. It isn't the truck thing with TMC that bothered me. I have always been particular about how my equipment looked whether it was my truck or my bike. I was just looking at who had the most hometime while still able to make money and treat their drivers with a little respect. I know this sounds like fairytale land, but some companies seem better at this than others. I haven't found any Roehl terminals near me in Tennessee, so I guess I wouldn't get as much hometime with Roehl. I also am surprised Roehl has slip seating. That isn't something that I would like to get into. When I start, I would like my assigned truck to be mine, nobody else driving it. I know how I will treat it. I need it to make a paycheck and get me home.
-
You're confusing companies. TMC told me you'd get home every weekend if you lived within a certain distance of their terminals; every other if you did not.
Roehl has a chart. You can be out anywhere from 10 days up to... I think infinity but I'm not sure... and there's a chart on how much hometime you get as a result. I stay out extra when I'm aiming for a certain holiday or something.
From your location you're looking at trying to get parking permission from a truck stop or somebody you know with a lot of land or something. I don't know where TMC's facilities are but it might be the same thing.
Absolutely get your own truck.

Here's my 2 cents regarding Roehl.
This is my first trucking job and I've been with Roehl since February. They have been more than fair with me. Actually they have been outstanding, far better than I imagined. Without going into boring detail I took off nearly 3 weeks for a pre-planned anniversary trip, came back and worked 8 days and then had 4 days off for another pre-planned event. Now I'm out for 4 weeks as "pay back" to my fleet manager for working with me on these things (I offered to go on an extended run it wasn't required or even requested by Roehl). Prior to these events I was always out 11-12 days and home 3+. The nearest facility to me is Bensalem PA which is about 7 hours from my home and I have no problem so far getting home when I wish to.
My belief is that if you're fair to Roehl they'll be fair to you. You need to make your appointments, meet your MPG goal, don't tear up the equipment and take the loads as assigned and they'll treat you well. Like any company the quick way to the doghouse is to complain, do a poor job, expect special treatment without a quid pro quo, and fail to meet the company set goals.
If you want a fair treatment look no further.
Best Regards,
O.G.Dr. Venture Thanks this. -
Your just lucky as far as the fair treatment goes. You have a good FM and dispatcher. Better hope you have them for awhile, because if you get a bad one, it will be like working for a completely different company. Youve only been driving a few months and really dont know what your talking about, so, slow down. Freight is very slow right now and Roehl is liberal with giving time off because of this. I would swear that you guys are often trying to get referral bonuses.
-
Actually you might need to slow down. All the loads are assigned by load planners and not Fm's or dispathchers. So in all reality you really have very little contact with either of them. You state the day you would like to be home and the planners give you those loads not the FM or dispather. I have been at Roehl nearly 2 years and what he wrote was true. I find at Roehl it is generally the misfits which struggle. The ones who feel they are owed something without giving a fair days work. The ones that act as though that can't do anything without having thier hand held. I can go a whole trip out without talking to my DSR other than on the Quailcom with quick micros. I get no referral bonuses from Roehl because I would never want someone I really don't know to say I sent them. My name would be tarnished if I played that game. Also Roehl is aggressive in it's attempt to hire military vets and most of them are quite happy at Roehl. Vets are used to working without being babysat and are generally problem solvers. Also if I didn't like something I would change my situation and move on again another trait of a vet.Dr. Venture Thanks this.

Thanks for the breakdown, Veteran. Im a vet too. I dont go around flashing it though, as if you should anyway. And yes, excuse me for not bringing in the load planners, I didnt think such a technical analysis was needed. I have won safety awards from Roehl, and never been late in the 19 months I was there. So dont bother insinuating your BS. You were banned from this forum under your previous name, I wonder why. In fact, its drivers like you, or vets, that need to have their hands held. You should have stayed in the military and got that guaranteed paycheck, which is what motivates most to stay in, not service to Country.

Here we go again!

Looks to me that OctoberGuy simply stated his 2 cents in how his time (albeit only 5 or so months) with this company has passed. He plainly states he is fairly new and writes what he believes to be the facts as they apply to him during his time at Roehl.
What is wrong with that?
I took it for what it was worth,
same as any info you would care to provide nate596.
Same as Etch, spin, oldguy, Dr Venture, Cmoore, Jenn, rim, Cheryl, or PreacherMan....
No need to get all ruffled
Hopefully we can keep the Roehl info coming in for the people that want to know about it.
just my 2 cents, and about worth that much!
Dr. Venture and JennCTW Thank this. -
I wouldnt worry about Nate596's posts, most of them are full of nothing but piss and vinegar anyways...
Dr. Venture Thanks this. -
Just like the jug you will be using, I dont miss that.
