The pill popping ended in the mid-late 90s. The current HOS didn’t come until 03. Had nothing to do with the performance enhancing drugs. The thing was, the big union guys were running 8.5 hours a day and then stopping, whether they reached their destination or not. If they didn’t reach their destination, they’d send a shuttle van out and switch drivers. The union wasn’t competitive.

Also, the union was the one pushing for the Mexican trucks to have free reign in the US. Safer? Not hardly. Anything to hurt everyone else’s business, regardless of public safety.

Some people can do open heart surgery for 20 hours straight without an issue: guess that’s super low stress, that a whole medical team can do it regularly but no one holding a wheel can anywhere in the country, because the government said so. People in offices know all about what every man can or can’t do.

People who aren’t driven to succeed spend a lotta time n effort telling the people succeeding how they’re wrong n there ought to be a law because they’re doing it differently.

My OO is on elogs. $380 for 2 years if I’m not mistaken.
I bought 100 stapled paper log books for $100.

Y’all drive your trucks, I’ll drive mine. I’ll keep listening to successful people that are already doing what I aspire to one day do.

Had a bit of a rodeo around here today. Amish neighbors bull got loose. Big old horned s.o.b.
Why in the world they don't de-horn cattle is beyond me. Especially a bull!
Same story as last time. Pasture dried up to nothing and he stepped over the crap 2 wire fence that a 3rd grader coulda improved on...
Me and the rest of the neighbors got him home.
But with a warning that next time he will be hanging from a loader bucket...

EDITED TO ADD: If I gotta sit for more than 10 hours I want to do it at home where there's a chubby butt and big boobs of my choosing to rub on!! Not at some out of the way piss lot watching slobs walk in and out for 34 hours! Just my humble opinion...I could be wrong..;):D

I drove for a company with the guys on the crank. I never did crank (still have my teeth too), but I could run and gun with them. 20 hours a day, if need be. Home on the weekend. We only had 1 truck out of 25 that had an accident and that was because a 4 wheeler drove under the trailer trying to get on the interstate. So, I’d even question that the ban on the drugs made things safer.

In fact, we ran triple digit speeds at night. I blew a steer at triple digits. We adjusted the brakes front to rear once a week. Had some chump tell me that I had to be certified when I put a new brake chamber on my truck. Sure buddy... you pay a couple hundred bucks if you want to.

A long haul driver was home every weekend. 5000 miles and at the house for the weekend. But now, they do the Dumb and Dumber Program, and stick 2 idjets in a truck and sit them on the road for months at a time. How is that safe?

I know a lot of union guys late 90's that pushed 600-700 miles a night in under powered castrated trucks on a ltl linehaul, it was never a 8.5 hour job.
