DPF has zero to do with urea injection. Its a completely different thing.

    From turbo to tailpipe:
    -DOC
    -DPF
    -SCR catalyst
    -AMOx catalyst (not mandatory)

The SCR catalyst is what the urea (DEF) reacts with. The DPF is what collects the soot.

drove an '08 Volvo D13 for 475K miles. 500hp, no gov.used the diesel fuel to burn off the filter.

worked pretty good and had no problems with that part of engine.

it pulled like an old Cat. lol

Yes the system does produce ammonia. Yet there is a catalytic converter after the DEF injector that alters the ammonia into less harmful gasses. I dont remember the p;articulars. Yet they arent being removed if you are driving a diesel powered truck. Compressed natural gas trucks dont need the DEF as it is a different fuel altogether. Until some one figures out a way to decrease the smog particulate, we will be stuck with using DEF.

    Never gonna happen.
You think CARB is just going to admit they
We're wrong and tell everybody they no longer
    Need a DPF system.

These nutbags would rather die from the ammonia
Poisoning first, before they ever admit that.

If anything, they'd spend another 100 million of taxpayers
Money, and come up another exhaust system to go
    Behind the DPF.

Then we'd all have to get new trucks again,
    With twice the problems.
    That's the more likely scenario.

This guy is getting warmer. CARB isnt about saving the planet, its about killing capitalism. Sure, it was for fixing the LA smog, back in 1967 when it was created. But today any socialist or eco-warrior who hates industry is free to apply for a job at CARB or EPA etc and go after the loggers or truckers or farmers or fisherman. Whoever they hate today. Theyll produce whatever "science" necessary to attack whoever they want.

Put clean american industries under so that mexico and china can produce and import the stuff while dumping toxic sludge right in the river. Sure, thatll save the planet
