In a lot of ways I wish I had been brave enough to jump out there and grow my Dads business.
Thing is there were men in his time that understood trucking was performance based pay that meant doing what they could to get the load there on time as @Oxbow said. I never heard Dad tell a guy to fix his truck, but did hear him say well this is your problem ain't much to it this is what you need. If you can do it I just assume pay you as a road call.
He also done work for JMI and Bill Davis so if we needed anything they had in stock it was come get it and replace it next week so we didn't have to have a lot cash tied up in inventory.
I could make excuses all day bottom line I just couldn't make that leap. They sure made it look easy

Hook just called. Looks like my high priced ride will be here in 20 minutes.
Some might say it would have been cheaper to get an Uber and go chasing parts but I still don't want to work on the side of the road. Sometimes you just have to spend some money to do things a little safer. -
I agree wholeheartedly, get off the road if at possible. Tow bill is cheap compared to the idiots

They call this their stuffed tilapia. The fish is op top. Underneath there’s crab, shrimp, lobster and octopus that has been steamed over a bed of peppers and onions in a light cheese sauce.
Very good ending for the day.rda2580, Intothesunset, Feedman and 23 others Thank this. -
Its definitely an amazement how they make it seem like it's nothing to run a company that size. Gail was always super nice when I was in the office but she didnt take no #### off anyone and everyone else in the office was always super helpful.
I'd still be there if theyd have let me solo it. I just couldn't take teaming anymore.1951 ford, rda2580, Intothesunset and 16 others Thank this. -
I didn't realize they had went all teams, I can't blame you they don't build a truck big enough for 2 lol
-
Yep unless you've been there for a very long time you're teaming, they ran at the time 579s or t680s with 72in sleepers. They've started going with the new sleeper Pete has that's like a #### cascadia standup condo. I ran with a buddy of mine so it wasnt too bad and we could turn ar > la > philly > ar in 6 days. It just wore me out from sleeping in a moving truck all the time.

Do what you feel is best. It’s your ride and your livelihood.1951 ford, Feedman, BigCam9670 and 13 others Thank this.

I don't know, those 70" standup mid-roof trucks sure do make life on the road a whole lot more comfortable for one driver. You actually have room to move around and stand up and put your pants on in the morning.
As much as I like the look of a narrow-cab Pete with a flat top sleeper, if I'm living on the road for a week at a time and not running a colouring book, I would like more space than less in most cases. And not having to squeeze my fat rump between the driver and passenger seat while half bent over is very refreshing. -
After I took the kiddo out for drive time this morning I dropped her off to do her final drive test with the driver's training instructor. She passed with flying colors and got her certificate. All she needs is to do 35 more hours with me, and we can take her in to the DMV to get her license.
Her next obstacle is proving to me that she's earned the privilege of getting a car of her own in a couple of months.
