I have applied to several companies that I feel are reputable tanker companies. I keep getting the same thing. We're only hiring owner op's. Is it wotrh buying a truck to get on with a good company?

I guess "it depends" probably isn't the answer you're looking for?
sounds like the standard line from Miller tank -
On the other side of the equation...pulling a tank limits you to one kind of freight.
A reefer or a flat or step deck gets you more options.
I pull a pneumatic tank right now (frac sand)...so it's just sand that I haul...for a company.
A reefer, although I don't really like a reefer, gives you the option of dry or refrigerated.
A flat or step deck gives you fairly unlimited choices...the downside is tarping or as I like to call it..."Gift-wrapping"..the upside with a set of ramps is that you can haul freight that drives on and off.
Like I said in MMs thread...I'm looking at buying a truck and trailer (probably a reefer) simply because of the fact that I'm very tired of some company telling me how much money I'm allowed to make or better put would be how much I'm NOT allowed to make in a given week or month.
I have a good friend that has his own authority and has offered me the opportunity to run under it for the time being. -

I'm pulling a flat now and have been for sometime. There isn't much money in it a a company man. Unless you know something or somewhere I dont.

It's better to know you already have work lined up first, before considering on buying a truck.
You're over there in Tifton. There's a lot of Log Haulers over there. Search your area and see whats better moving. -
