Oh and if anyone is interested, their trip doesn't end with me, they go onto ships and take the last little leg of their journey.

    Just fine!
Sure we are slow going up the hills, but it just grunts and keeps pulling. Nothing steeper than 12% grade this trip either, so no biggie. Do my trucks last 1.5 million miles between overhauls? No...but i don't mind. I work them hard, pound them offroad abusively, and when they need work it gets done asap. I also didn't bid this job so poorly that it is just scraping bottom to make money. I bid it with lots of meat left on the bone.

I’ve tried explaining that once. It could be roughly comparable to trying to teach a Chinaman to speak German.

I got 20 5/16 chains. I haul steel and lumber 90% of the time.. Never had a problem with 5/16 on anything steel, beams, coils, . keep em tight and u will be good.. Get some 3/8 if it makes u sleep better at night.. One of my buddies likes to put 2 3/8 chain on coil. Both on backside pulling coil towards rear of trailer, he says it makes him feel safer.. Watever floats ur boat, but 1/2 inch is to much IMO. Not to mention they will be lots of fun throwing over the top of beam load or thru coil. No thanks ill take my lightweight 5/16 .

I always carried a mixture of 5/16 and 3/8, and used the 5/16 the most, I did haul a lot od steel at times, but wouldn't haul from the mills at all, and I rarely let them put sticks on my rig, in fact tt had to be specialty beams for log homes or something to get lumber on my rig.

    Mill work here is easy.
Sit down and relax while a guy on a forklift loads the trailers...throw some straps on it, go for a leisurely drive down the hwy, and they unload you at the other end.
    It's boring...but oh so easy.
