65’ overall length

You can shorten the neck or you can take your bed off. With the bed off you truck is considered a tractor. Most tractors and trailers are over 65 feet.

 

I've got a 39' deck length loadmax for sale!! 12k dexter's, 14ply rubber, EoH disc, winch track. They didn't want to shorten the neck so I gave up a foot of deck. Hasn't cost me any freight in 5yrs.

I was 64' 6" bumper to tail with that trailer, & a 169.5" wheelbase Ram..

 

Yeah, when I said they I meant Load Trail/LoadMax. No warranty issue, LoadMax built it that way. Their 33" lo-pro deckovers have a 101" neck. So a 40' deck length is 48' 5" from center of coupler to tail. Hooked to my 169.5" crew cab dodge it was to long at about 65' 8". I asked Loadmax to take 9" out of the neck, but they flat out refused. They were more than happy to build it as a 39' deck though for the same price as a 40'.
Funny thing is Loadmax will build the 3 axle lowboy (29" deck height with fenders above part of the deck) with a shorter neck so a 40' will be legal with a dodge or GM. Not sure about the new fords? They are like 176" wheel base. Mine will still be legal with a ford though..

Yeah that is weird. There is a guy on here, or maybe another forum out of California that has all Load Trail 3 axle lowboys & he has them ordered with a shorter neck. To me that is a stupid rule anyway! If you want to say a truck registered as a pickup can only pull a 40' trailer down the road then fine, but don't get all weirded out & say overall length has to be under this. I see some guys with grill guards on their rigs, does this also have to be added to the over all length or do they go from the factory bumper?

 

It's from tip to tail. Say you hang a V plow on your truck for looks & traffic "redirection" abilities...that eats into your OAL.

 

You still have to have it registered as a tractor, if you go that route.
