I took two years of auto mechanics at Vo-tech when I was in high school. Glad I did. The instructor, Mr Betke, was in love with my ‘56 Bel Air, so I got A’s to bring it over and work on it.

Didn’t help me much with a career, but it did teach me a few things that helped keep my old junk on the road.

Thinkin back, I shoulda opted for the welding course.

I pissed away a full ride for an associates degree. First year I took diesel mechanics. Second year I took part of automotive before dropping too many extra classes that I lost my scholarship. I shouldve went welding as well and made the big bucks on the pipeline.

Exactly what I thought, but any less and the rod was sticking.

I’m sure it’s just due to lack of practice and being greener than grass. Lol.

I know I can MIG it and make it look decent. It’s just a lot cooler to make it look good with a stick welder.

This is just scrap, for practice. I need to be working on the truck since I’m home. This is my excuse to not to.

    Smaller rod and less heat.

I've went to town and found the parts to make my fuel drain back testing device. 10 feet of clear tubing for 10 bucks and some 20 dollar jic 10 non ferruled hydraulic fittings.

If you don’t mind posting some pics, that’d be cool. Sure might help a few folks out in the future.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm not much a welder but I've found 7018 needs really clean steel. 6013 we call "farmers rod" because it'll tolerate a lot more rust. The 6013 splatters a lot though I've found.

Alright. According to quick serve you put an 18 inch piece of clear tube between the pump and the suction lines. If theres no air bubbles we arent sucking air. Once off a bubble will appear. If it moves back towards the tank within an hour theres a leak somewhere in the lines. If it doesnt move then the hard start isnt drain back related.

Fittings I got from oriellys and hose came from home depot

Sure you’re not thinkin of 6010 or 6011?

I think 6013 leaves less spatter than just about anything I’ve used. And so far seems to do best on this thin stuff.

    I like that.

I might need to see about this “quick serve” deal.
