    I thought they did allow solo drivers? Did that change or was I lied to? - Would not be the first time.

    Looks like that's probably what he's going to go ahead and do. But I'm still keeping my eye out for a possible jump to another company. TMC is definitely out as I called them this morning and they said they don't want him. No reason. They just like other applicants better. But I agree there is definitely something weird going on in the company.

    Team Redcoat is making their way to PA and are probably somewhere in Nebraska now. At this rate it will take another week or two for them to get him to Chatt. so he can make the move to dedicated.

    He told me that he had a run-in today with one of those orange barrels in construction zones. He was following a truck through a really narrow construction lane and the draft from the lead truck sucked one of those barrels into his path and he could do nothing but hit it. The truck didn't seem to feel it but the barrel got stuck under the tractor so Redcoat pulled off to the side as soon as he could, stopped the truck, backed up to see if it would come out and it did. He and his teammate got out and while Redcoat was putting the barrel out of the way of traffic, his teammate inspected under the truck and sure enough, they had a fuel leak. Redcoat tightened it up and it stopped leaking but they went to a TA anyway to make sure it got a good fix rather than their temp fix so that blew another two hours. They finally got on their way again but now they're behind the power curve.

    Initially the TA mechanic didn't want to do anything because it wasn't leaking so as far as he was concerned, there was nothing wrong. But Redcoat told him that he only used an adjustable wrench to tighten it up and that they needed to back it off, put something on it to seal it and then put it back together. He stood his ground so they eventually did what he asked so they could get rid of the mad Englishman. That fuel line has leaked and caused them trouble before so that's why Redcoat insisted that they do a good fix on it.

    RIP Michael (who I only liked when he was with the J-5) and Farrah (who was the only reason I watched Charlie's Angels)

    You are right. They still have solo drivers, but they don't get NEAR the miles the team drivers do which is why Redcoat made the move to try to get a dedicated account. The dedicated drivers seem to get a tad more miles than the straight solo drivers do.

    If they keep jerking him around and not getting him back, the dedicated job may be gone, if it's not already. If GP needs a driver now, they can't wait weeks to get one.

    There are many flat bed companies, but perhaps he wants a more local Co. to Chatt. One skateboard Co. is J&R Schugel, located in the Great white north, New Ulm, Minnisota. But a company that is more local to your area may be good. It is Tango Transport, located in Shreveport, LA. they also have a yard in Madisonville, KY. There phone is 1-866-873-9140.     If he is close to your age....that is the issue.

    While some within this forum may deny it. I can say with clarity, they do discriminate with age.

    When I applied with them, I had 18 plus years experience, a clean DAC, a clean MVR. They took my 2 neighbors a week apart, both were under 40. I applied with the first one.

    Both of them combined, had less than half my experience.

    Good move on TMC, I'm starting with a new co driver next week and was talking to him on the phone yesterday. He worked for them very briefly and the pay was abysmal.

    You're probably right. I had forgotten about the age thing. Redcoat is 50 with less than a year experience so that was probably it.

    Currently Team Redcoat are working their way through PA on the way to Michigan. Hopefully from there they will get something down to Chatt. so Redcoat can start his new job. He QC'd the dispatcher reminding them that he was supposed to have been routed to Chatt. since Monday and he got a curt and rather cryptic "You're on the board," for a reply. So I guess that's their way of telling him they already know.

    Redcoat says he has just about had it with these ####### shippers who treat drivers like pond scum. Same old deal with him trying to get out of there and get going but there is paperwork to be signed. He goes into the office and is told to go around to the other side which he does. So he stands there for about 5 minutes and nobody acknowledges his presence so he's like f*** 'em and he leaves. He goes out to the truck and starts to pull it forward and they come running out to sign the paperwork.

    You know, a little common courtesy would go a long way. Just a small, "Be with you in a couple minutes - we're working on it," would help. But just totally ignoring someone is pure bad manners and inexcusable. It's a good thing it's not me out there with him because I'd be pounding on their #### window, "Helloooo! McFly!!! Are y'all just rude in general or is it a special day where you get a prize for how long you make somebody stand in here and wait." :biggrin_25516:

    I'm sorry but I would just have no patience for crap like that and I'd call them out on it every time.

    Lets face reality here....the shippers hate and disrespect the drivers, the consignees have the same attitude and worse at times, but they want their freight there and on time....the motoring public sees semis and drivers as road obsticles and rolling lottery tickets...the police and DOT love drivers for the money they can rake in from them...truck stops fleece drivers with high prices and poor service and sometimes below par food and services...lawyers love drivers for the money to be made off of them...the government has a strangle hold on the industry-rules and regs- that are made to manipulate the industry....but on the same note, some drivers provoke such sentiments towards them and the industry.....
    Most people do not realize that the things that are in trucks are for them to use....
    food,clothing,construction materials,medicine,electronics,gasoline and more, one day when there will be a shutdown...and the shelves go bare,and the stores have no gasoline...people will realize how crucial trucking is to our economy and to our countries financial security.I have dealt with the attitudes out there....it's just that everyone takes it for granted that the necessities will always be there for them.
    A rude awakening is in store for them one day...then maybe drivers will be more apreciated.......
