All sounds like trucking to me.
Simply put, Truckin aint for sissies -
Ive worked at heartless for about a year, and nothing has changed.the first week i started i was in detroit sitting.
i said to myself just give it a chance maybe it will change. Iam a regional out of jax supposed to run florida ga sc al and have 3 weekends out of the month off have paper work saying this!
now i didnt expect ALL of this but i at least would want 4 days at home a MONTH.. this month i have been out 2 weeks going on 3 its july 3rd and iam in oh sitting with a load that doent pick up till monday.. this sux since on wendsday i was in fl 150 miles away from home.when i do get home it will be for a whole 34 hours. the samething happend thanksgiving
this is just an example of the shizz they pull ALL the time and give the same ole explanation over and over again it gets old. hopefully i can find a local job or even go back to warehouse work because company drivers are being treated like crap not just here at heartland but everywere. and yea trucking isnt for sisies but iam no sisie iam just a honest hard worker that wants to be treated with some respect!

Not sure if its wanting to replace expirenced drivers for newbies or they just have that many trucks sitting idle and have had for about 2 months now in Iowa City. Maybe they are running the folks they have to cover the frieght they have.
Not sure what the answer is. In your other halfs case I would be looking however it may not be all that easy as I am sure you are well aware of.
As far as the safety lane goes time of day, condition of truck, if you are under load when you go in can make a difference. Know what they check for so it is up to par when you go in. It can save you time.
Good luck. -
I beg to differ with those comments.
I got home regular, was home every holiday, and took off for every family event. Took off when I wanted to. And made good money.
Until I got greedy, and went OTR with the "big boys".
I've put my time in with the big boys, and I'm back to the little guys to stay.
No the pay isn't as good (I only brought home $681 this week). But by gawd I have a life again.
I spoke with dispatch at 9am thursday, was asked to hold position for a load. Called again at 1pm, and asked if I could call it a week and go to the house.
They deadheaded me 150 miles, to the house.
Now things may change, if the economy worsens. Or we lose a major account. Until then, I'm gonna keep milking this cow. And eatin rainbow stew. -
i'm fixing to start trucking school at mtc plains after wasdrive a year at stevens trans becouse they do a lot ny and go with heartland express but i'm really hoping for tri-state haz-mat
-
Go ahead and go to tri-state.. if you enjoy hauling radioactive material and explosives, on the same trailer, then that's sounds like the place to be!! And your going to stevens BECAUSE they go to NY? My friend you must have hit your head on somthing. Wait till you get your load hijacked at a stoplight at 4 am in the Bronx, and the company holds you liable and takes it out of your paycheck.
-
Hmmmm Uh ?? How do you get banned with one post ????
I musta missed sumpin. -
Heartland Express,a two part company,u have the elite, never do wrong, know all group that hide behind the locked doors (dispatch, controllers, etc.),and then u have the low-born,ruffians,unclean manual types they let drive the trucks(u know, the ones that make things go) ,did'nt care for that set-up, last straw, told drivers can't drink from the water cooler(Atanta terminal),for office people only, driver needs to go in the back room beside the filthy shower /johns and use the DRIVERs water fountain, goodbye HEARTLAND
-
Yep...that would have done it for me too.
They are not even worthy of a 2 week notice. Treating drivers like a lower form of life is uncalled for and unnecessary.
Maybe thats why they never called me back when I asked them about a job a few years back...I told them plain that I didn't tolerate BS very well.
