Cheap trucks are the best way for a determined Owner Operator to make a start in the business. The same people that say they should be in junk yards are the same people who think the Federal government is fit to determine who have enough money to run a business or not. Ignore the naysayers and try your best.

Cats, I agree there are but how does one figure out what to buy when they don't know a thing about a truck to begin with?
They don't.
Anyone can make a truck look pretty, fooling many, even those veterans who have billions of miles behind them but when most of the trucks are used as tools to do a hard job, and not coddled, they wear out.
No disagree, if it is a worthy truck that won't break down then it is a good way to start but I think many of you miss an important point, cheap trucks and cheap owners go hand in hand and have led us down the path of cheap rates. When you get a truck that is costing more money than it makes right from the start, the owner many times becomes desperate to the point that they take anything to produce revenue. -
All trucks break down. Regardless of purchase price. You think like a machine and assume everything fits into a perfect box. Too many variables involved to simply say all cheap trucks equal all cheap freight. I know guys running on a shoestring budget pulling very good paying loads because they'd rather put that money in their pocket instead of paint and chicken lights.Tug Toy, Speed_Drums and Justrucking2 Thank this.

Have you had any problems with it?

It’s been over 2 1/2 years 330k miles and been a great truck, I’ve spent money on oil changes, tires, and had the particulate filter cleaned and that’s been itOldeSkool Thanks this.

Awesome!!!...What kind of truck was it?...Did you have great credit?
-
I got a ‘17 w900, my only regret is not choosing the bigger horsepower motor because I was worried about being able to make the payment
I had above average credit but not good enough to buy a brand new truck with such a small down payment
Another o/o bought his new Pete with a 30k down payment conventional loan and we compared apples to oranges one day, my down payment, sales tax and 60 payments to loan mountain vs his down payment fet tax sales tax and 60 payments to the bank and we were within a few dollars of each other for total priceOldeSkool Thanks this. -
What motor does yours have?
-
Six 475 horse 1650 torque
After 1 1/2 years of being leased I got my own authority and trailers I pull 117000 around nv and ut so the motor is a little to small, wish I had at least 525 1850 torqueOldeSkool Thanks this.
