There’s no such thing as a 1099 employee, you can’t just call someone a contractor and avoid the ramifications of a traditional employer/employee arrangement. https://www.strictlybusinesslawblog.com/2011/08/04/there-is-no-such-thing-as-a-1099-employee/

Something that is rarely mentioned when someone starts spouting off about all these countries and their "free" healthcare is how little they spend on their own defense. Instead they rely on the U.S. and other nations to protect them. Nothing is free, somebody, somewhere has to pay.
Now as to why healthcare is so expensive. The #1 most basic and most important rule of economics, which I learned in grade school, is the law of supply and demand. It's a law that is always in effect, and it's like gravity, it will always win in the end. Socialism attempts to defy it, which is why socialism always fails.
Healthcare at one time was relatively inexpensive, people only went to a doctor if they absolutely had to. Then, due to changes in employee compensation structures and government programs, all forms of socialism, healthcare began to be viewed as "free" by many of the working class and "poor". So now with all these people running to a doctor for every little sniffle, ache, or pain, the demand for healthcare services increases, so the cost increases.
Enter government regulation, ambulance chasing lawyers, high costs of education, all reducing supply. More people demanding more "free" services, and getting them. Bigger judgments, more regulation, more government handouts and entitlement programs...
It's been going on so long most people don't even know the difference between health insurance and healthcare. Try to explain that if you give your power (money and control) over your needs to someone else that you shouldn't be surprised that they are rich at your expense and ya get a blank stare or "Well the government should....".cke, Lostkeys, Crusader66 and 19 others Thank this. -
You still have to pay SS and Medicare even if you're self employed. You're paying it if you're paying taxes.
The self-employment tax rate is 15.3%. The rate consists of two parts: 12.4% for social security (old-age, survivors, and disability insurance) and 2.9% for Medicare (hospital insurance).Aug 21, 2018Zeviander, Crusader66, Hurricane69 and 8 others Thank this. -

You’re dead nuts on everything you said. People love to bring up the Nordic countries as an example, they spend almost nothing on defense, if it wasn’t for us Russia would have steam rolled them years ago.
Healthcare would be cheaper now if it weren’t for government regulations which have tried to control everything and made people dependent. There needs to be accountability just like car insurance. What would an oil change or wiper blades cost if they were covered? Last year I had an MRI, I have good insurance and my part was over 600 bucks on top of what the insurance paid. It took a couple days to get in, I’m not complaining about the wait time but what I’m saying is that means they were booked up. $1500 plus per patient and they’re doing multiple per day that’s a lot of money. You can get an MRI on your dog a lot cheaper. Why is it that way? Because I had no say in it, they told me where I had to go and I had no say in the cost. Why can’t there be independent businesses that perform those tests? All they did was administer the test my doctor interpreted the results. Imagine if it were up to us, there would be businesses in strip malls everywhere that offered these tests, you could offer MRI’s CT scans, X-rays, all kinds of stuff. My doctor would tell me to get an MRI, I could call around and see who was the cheapest and could get me in the quickest. One might get me in today but cost more than the one that can get me in tomorrow, it would be up to me to decide if I want to pay more or wait a day. The way it is now there’s no incentive to lower prices. But to do this we need accountability not control.Tug Toy, Slowpoke KW, Crusader66 and 14 others Thank this. -
