There is no sensor in the flywheel unfortunately. The dealer claims its in the transmission tail shaft and some say it reads from the ecm but its a DDEC2 ecm and shouldnt. Some also say its a lead wire on the alt.
However, when a scanner is plugged in the ECM is reading the rpm just fine. So it could be a signal from ecm. I need to find someone with experience with a DDEC2 system. This is driving me nuts.

Where are you, btw? If you are in Chicago area, Interstate Power Services in Carol Stream is knowledgeable, but in Cedar Rapids there is only one guy who knows what is going on with a ddec2, and even his memory is a little rusty. -

On the back of the gauge there should be a positive and negative and a signal wire.
I would think if you take the gauge out you would be able to check the signal wire to see if it increases with engine RPMs. You can test ground and the power wire also to see if they are functioning correctly and nothing came loose or any other problems.
You should be able to isolate the problem that way. -
Bean Jr. Thanks this.
