I read that article when it first came out. It's "spot" on (pun intended). Freight rates have taken a dive. Insurance costs are rising. Fuel prices have increased from a couple years ago, when rates were high. This leaves owner operators, fleet owners, and company owners in a squeeze. There will be a lot of companies that will fail in the next year or two.

A year ago year ago if you wanted to buy a new truck, ordered from the factory to your specs, the wait time to delivery was close to a year. It's substantially less now.

This industry needs fewer trucks on the road to get freight rates back up to a profitable level.

S'not gonna be easy, what with everyone thinking truck driving is an easy way to make a buck.

It is. Depends on your definition of easy, though.

Girlfriend told me last night my former company's starting to get light in the freight department. Which is starting to worry some and piss others off. Dispatch has had to restructure some runs to road drivers so they can get the miles for the week and scrape loads together for the day trippers.

With watching some news reports stating that we’re heading into another recession comparable to 2008. Seeing some of these trucking companies close their doors is rather worrisome. Especially if the markets slowing down with production in manufacturing.

What companies closed up because of slow freight, that didn't have all their eggs in one basket?

The news has an agenda and is actively trying to get consumer spending down all the while praying for a recession.

I haven't seen a slowdown with my company, or at least my miles anyways. My trainer back in January (I'm still a noob), he told me about what it was like in the 2008 recession. It sounded like absolute hell.

Let's hope the media is just hyping this up. It's a shame to see people hurt in recessions and families lose everything. I am very blessed that trucking has given me the opportunity to build my rainy day fund to a respectable level, that will hopefully weather the storm of any economic downturn that is out of my control.

My impression is with the other poster above that this is a news story with an agenda. Have any of you personally witnesses signs of a slowdown?
The left has said, repeatedly, that they wish for a recession in order to put a different president in power.

While I'm not in general freight we are busy as hell. People are spending and the wheels are turning and we are getting paid and expanding. There might be some segments of trucking that have too many drivers (I'm sure there are) but not everyone is getting pinched in this.

The news always looks for what is the most interesting to catch attention that’s how they make their money. News talks about a girl selling lemonade down the street no one’s going to watch it. Now if we sell the fear of a recession and add another article on how to protect your investments then people get hooked on it. Just the nature of the beast.
