If I join a load board like one of these, would they ever help me get loads in the bus?

I think that if you are using Reno as your hub, you need to investigate what companies in Reno are doing business in Seattle, what companies in Seattle are doing business in Reno. Once you determine who target them specifically (personal visits to promote your business). I think that to do something like what you described you’re going to have to put some effort into it, not just look at a load board.

So do you want to run people or run freight? Doing both seems like a pain in the butt.

Do you advertise? Do the people along your routes know that you want to offer package service? If they don’t they’re looking for FedEx and UPS to ship a package when they need it. I doubt they’re wondering if there’s a bus line they can put it on.
You would need to pick up and drop off at your bus stops. Driver can’t be eating up hours running around delivering packages.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
After considerable thought, I've elected to focus on the passengers.
