The problem isn't the fact he choose a bad company to work with. Like you said that can be fixed.
The problem lies in the fact he doesn't have enough knowledge to know how to look for a good company.

Are you leased to a company, or have your own authority?
3100 revenue on 1600 miles is not terrible, infact it is doable.
the deadhead % is a killer though, you or your dispatcher needs to cut that down a LOT
1600 total miles for a week sucks, need to get that up to 2500 at least at the same per mile revenue, would make everything look different too
2500 at 1,92 + 4800, even at the same deadhead % things would be looking much better.
Fuel costs sucks, but you are probably setting on 300 gallons in the tanks now, so maybe not terrible there.
Driver pay sucks for a week, BUT if you had your mileage up to 2500, it would be over a thousand, so again maybe workable.
The factoring fee is likely as cheap as you are going to get.
The management fee and dispatch fee is what I do not understand, if you are leased to a company are these combined to be your lease percentage, or is just the manage ment fee the lease and the dispatch is farmed out to a third party?
We use to dispatch some trucks for a 10% fee, worked well for both parties, but they had their own authorities and we got them some decent rates. A 10% fee if you are already paying 20% or better on a lease is not too good., but together is 30% or a little more, so a lot of guys pay that, but you expect something in return, and not the miles you are getting and for sue not the deadhead you are getting.
Insurance is probably not bad for texas, and workable
trailer rent is not bad.
Truck payment is not bad at all.
Me thinks you need to talk to your management and dispatch team, and Let them know that you need at least 1000 more miles a week, and that is paid miles with less deadhead than you have now, for sure no more. The deadhead % is what killed his particular week and put it in the red.
Just running that same 1600 miles, if yoour deadhead was cut to 20% your gross would have ben in the 4500 range instead of 3100, see the difference in that change,
Now at the same rate per mile add 1000 miles with the same 20% deadhead, your gross would be up around 7200.
Now that is likely more per mile than you will be able to average, but going by what you did this week, see the difference, in jus dropping your deadhead to 20% and again if the truck runs 2600 miles a week, and your drive would be happier too.dwells40 and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Now for the disclaimer. It is easy to put it down on paper to even convince the banker you will be rich, rich I tell you in a vey short time, but it just don't never come out like the paper shows.
