I see, but if you did fail, I read that the safety auditor will see that you are still driving even though you failed, and that im not sure what they do about. No biggy, I dont use drugs and wouldnt want to drive 80,000lbs down the road if I did, but I was curious on how the random drug pool worked if you are the only person to contact it seems pointless to call it a random at that point. But the reply obove yours helped out a lot with my question. Does that seem about the same for you. Thanks for the reply!!

It is random. I'm the only person in my company. My name is put into a hat at CMCI along with tons of other people and they pick out a random bunch. If I'm one then they call me and tell me I have to take a test. If I refuse then CMCI notifies DOT that I refused to take a test. Then the crap hits the fan.
I go take the test and the results come back to me. If I failed the drug test the only person that knows is me. The problem comes up if I'm subject to a spontaneous DOT compliance review or I get into an accident and my drug test results are asked for.
If I'm the boss of lets say 20 drivers I need to implement a random test within my company and I can do that. I put 20 names in the hat and pick 10 every 6 months or more to be tested. If some of those drivers test positive it's up to me to decide what I want to do and there are many options. I can terminate the driver. I can ignore the test and hope he doesn't get into an accident. I can make him go home for a week and have him tested once a week every week after he comes back.Scuba Steve Thanks this. -
I once worked for an O/O in Ca with 5 trucks. One day he told me I was picked for a random and had to get it done by the end of the week. I said I thought it was suppose to be immediate and he said you are allowed a week to do it. Makes sense considering collection agencys are only open 8-5 weekdays. What if you are just leaving Barstow going east at 1pm and will run out of hours at 4pm, but the next collection agency is in Kingman? Or,what if you are on hometime when your name is picked?
