I saw a driver at the gas station he said you can make six figures, home daily. He was driving a day cab pulling doubles. He said the health insurance is free to the drivers and no copay or deductibles. If all of this is true my wife could theoritically stay home with the kids. We wouldn't need to pay for child care. Her biggest reason she works is health ins... My employer doesn't have good health ins.

He claims $30 per hour plus overtime. He said they are short on drivers right now. If all of this was true it would be enough for me to leave my milk hauling job. He said I have enough experience.

Is what he told me too good to be true?

    It's true.
Many drivers won't work there because they don't want to wear a company uniform; silly reason, but true.

I could care less about wearing a uniform, it's less cloths I would have to buy. Is he accurate with pay and benefits?

I’d be on that job in a NY second.. lol, now you got the wheels turning in my head..

I have a cousin that’s been with UPS for probably over 35 years.. He started out as a temporary driver at Christmas time. They ended up hiring him full time and he’s been there ever since.

Probably 10+ years ago he got his CDL-A there and has been driving semis for them ever since.

Haven’t talked to him in years and it’s probably time I did.

I’m curious if they are Teamsters or not?

$30/hr is low unless it was a ups freight guy. I was making over $30/hr five or six years ago.

I will add that if you think that gutless truck you are hauling milk with is a problem you will probably quit day one at ups. Still a bunch of 25+ year old Mack and international day cabs rolling around with less power than that derated truck you were driving.

I average 18-20 bucks an hour no overtime regardless of how many hours I work. I guess that's not very good.

The truck he was driving was a cascadia..... Before they changed the front clip..... But it wasn't a beater. I'm still driving the basket case t680.... The biggest issue is it keeps calling for manual regen. I think I have done it 6 or 7 times this week twice today alone..... So far. I don't have an issue with an older truck, my issue is with a truck that is not running correctly.

My issue is that this truck will eventually leave me stranded. He does NOT pay for breakdown time.

Yea but that's not all the trucks. They have a company policy of trying to get 30 years out of trucks. What are you gonna do when you get in a old Mack that has a road speed govener that kicks on everytime you floor it going up a hill and you lose 20mph? Then the truck has no balls to pick up any more speed and you are stuck doing 25 with the 4 ways on. I'm just being realistic here. It's a great job with some of the worst trucks on the road and you don't seem to handle bad trucks very well.

I see nothing but newer UPS trucks when I run at night. I also don’t mind running with them because they seem to all be governed at about 70mph.
