After researching around I find myself a bit confused. I've talked to a number of guys that recommend cleaning or replacing it the doser regularly. But there's also a paper out from Navistar claiming that the maxxforce 13 did not have a doser after 2010. Now I'm more inclined to follow the lead of guys that I've actually worked on the engine, but it just seems screwy let maxxforce made such a claim while promoting the engine.
    Anyone know anything about that?

What you read is a misprint or faulty information. They certainly do have a doser. If you see lots smoke from time to time, this during an active regen while you are driving. The smoke is actually unoxidized or incomplete burnt fuel that is getting injected from the doser and the DOC isn't converting to heat properly. Could be a degraded DOC, dirty or plugged DOC, faulty doser or combination. DOC's do degrade and do not last forever. There is no visual clues to a degraded DOC. There is a DOC efficiency test that can be done, but I do not recommend it as it is violent on the engine. Remove and clean the DOC and DPF with full baking in a proper machine. Replace your doser. When they do a cleaning, they will do an air flow test through both the DPF and DOC to see if they are permanently plugged or not. If it passes, then you reinstall. Retest regen. If it still smokes and will not build proper temps, then you need a new DOC.

Hi, I have a 2012 pro star and I am loosing a gallon of coolant a day. After running 450 miles. There is no coolant in my oil, my truck is not overheating, and no visible leaks on hoses or seals. I was told it may be my egr cooler, occasionally blows white smoke, but I thought that was from it regenning while I was driving. Please help I’m so confused on what I should do.

If you have maxxforce engine your problem is egr cooler 100%, I had same problem and couple other trucks in my company and all of them had same issue which is egr cooler, my best friend works at international dealer as a lead mechanic and he told me right away egr cooler and that what it was, good luck hope this helps

I have to agree. When I had to have my EGR coolers replaced I was losing at least a gallon a day. It was clear it was not in the oil. There was no smell of antifreeze leaking either. But I was getting white smoke, and having to do a lot of Regens. I would love to tell you that all of my problems ended after the coolers were replaced, but it was more like they just calm down for a year

As screwy as it may sound, my EOC problem seem to have resolved itself. I took it to a different shop that disassemble the whole thing just to inspect it. They didn't find anything wrong and when they put it back together all of the temps were hitting normal. They told me that it is possible one of the seals was just not positioned correctly and they fixed it by accident.

Of course now I have another problem that I wanted to run by you. I am losing about a half gallon to a gallon of coolant today, it's not going on the ground or in the oil. You can smell it really strong but I can't find the leak. When my EGR coolers went out I never smelled coolant. Is it possible that you would smell the coolant if the EGR cooler was the issue? Or have I got a different type of bullet to try to dodge?
I've already had to coolant leaks this year, but both of them were from one of the stainless steel lines on the back of the engine that attaches to the cooler. The first replacement for some reason started leaking. But that leak was going right on the ground real obvious. This one I can't find it all but I can smell it real strong in the cab and around the hood. I ran my heater just to see if it might be from the core, but it's not.

I like this truck but with all these recurring Phantoms I'm really thinking about trading it in.

    Thanks in advance Heavy D

Coolant leaks could be dripping on the exhaust and evaporating to cause no trace and the smell. Look around the top of the egr cooler at those little lines for any leaks.

I will check that. I've been pretty concerned about it with the common EGR issue, but when I had that problem before you couldn't smell coolant.
So I'll check around those lines. Thanks again.
