ok I keep getting calls about this and I’m getting fed up.
I idle when I sleep, it’s over 100* here I would die without ac. I turn the truck off while I’m setting in it for the most part. Shippers, receivers etc. I sit and sweat. I’m not gonna leave because I have an animal if i can’t handle it he cant.
I’m trying to save fuel but I ain’t gonna die over them being too stupid to instal an apu. I use cruise control often but it ain’t gonna help that much in the mountains loaded heavy.
Any tricks to get better fuel mileage? That won’t cause me to die from heat stroke
On my 10 I idle constantly. Otherwise it takes the truck forever to cool off.
Fuel mileage?

Yes. It'll be a lot better in November...
Next time they call you tell them your fuel mileage sucks because your APU won't work.Dino soar, Intothesunset, OldeSkool and 4 others Thank this. -
Your probably going to have to find another job.
I wont touch another truck without a APU.
Just for the reasons you stated.
I used to tell them, when you turn off the ac in the
Office, I'll turn off the truck.
There is no tricks to overcome idling the truck.
It's obvious,they don't have the money for a APU.
This battle is not going to go away.
In the winter you'll need heat.
You got 2 options:
Stay and be harassed constantly about idling the truck,
Or find a company that has APU'S already in thier trucks.
I would leave, your going to be miserable.
A lot of customers now won't let you idle the truck.
It's a constant headache for you.Dino soar, BlueThunderr, OldeSkool and 1 other person Thank this. -
What kind of mileage are you getting and what are they expecting?
Dino soar, Intothesunset and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
They say 6 with my idle time on THEIR computer. My mpg itself is 7.5-9
I shut the truck off when I go into the store, when I hook up, when I unhook, when I wake up. It really isn’t like I’m intentionally idling.
I tried to use idle air at the terminal but the guy that designed the station is an idiot. I’m five foot nothing no way I can climb the side of the truck and install the window unit without a darn ladderFlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Sounds kinda crazy for them to complain about idling when the don't give you any other options. Any chance the truck has Optimize Idle or electric Apu ?. We have electric Apu that run on 8 batteries. Then the engine can start up and recharge the batteries. So the computers idle engine 2 hour a night
FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
My company doesn't say anything about fuel mileage. With them it is idle time.
Same dif.
My answer to both is, I idle as I need to to stay safe. Period.
If you don't like the idle time then install the APU so it can go down.
But they would rather hound drivers to help them with the cost of fuel, because APU's and their maintenance are too expensive. Especially when they only keep the trucks for around 500k miles on average.Dino soar, Intothesunset and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
I would look for a new company. Driver comfort should be a priority. I'm not an otr guy, I've not done in 11 years, but life in the road is hard and I don't think companies should make it harder on you
Dino soar, Intothesunset, Western flyer and 1 other person Thank this. -
Find a better company to work for, the one you're currently with sucks. No way in hell I'm not going to be comfortable during my reset.
Intothesunset Thanks this. -
No I all I have is a 1500w inverter.
