If you have no APU how does the company expect you not to idle?
If your trying to get fuel bonuses tell them not going to happen without APU.
Fuel mileage?

I was born and raised in the south so I can fully sympathize with you on the heat. I also sit in mills a lot. I would refuse to shut my truck off when parked if it is hot. It is unbearable. The only people I see in the mills I go in with windows down are junked out trucks that are hiring drivers no one else will, or owner operators who are too broke to fix it and have to run. Most everyone considers no A/C to be reason to park it until fixed.
At night to park without windows down is ridiculous and with them down invites mosquitos and thieves and who knows what else. I would nicely tell them I will idle my truck or find a different job and leave it in their court. You can find better places to work.FlaSwampRat and Intothesunset Thank this. -
That company obviously doesn't care about it's drivers.
Either a company with APU's. Or a company that don't care if and how much you idle.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Run the truck ac until your windshield frosts over. Be happy.
If they fire you you are still happy.
Keep in mind int he 40 some odd years Ive known anything at all about trucks fuel mileage only improved from 5 to about 7ish maybe 8.
NYAH... I say. stupid engineers. Spending piles of money trying to save a gallon of idling at the cost of your sweat.
A long time ago I ran a inventory of fuel to feed a detriot at idle 1000 rpm in the summer and 1500 in anything below -35 and it comes to around 9 gallons overnight in the summer. At 3.00. About the same as a good hotel room on corporate cdl room rate. More or less. Or you can feed that thirsty detriot in the winter to stay warm in very cold weather. It's approximately 20 gallons a hour.
