If u don’t trust the mechanic and u are asking for our opinion go to a different mechanic. Good luck.

Clutch always has to be programmed when replaced, most of the time you can do with volvo software some trucks need to reload new software into Trans control unit, when that happens than i have to call volvo to come over here for that part which is an extra charge besides that the programing comes with clutch replacement unless need to put in updated software, but it changes from truck to truck nothing that i can know for sure until i have everything done and i go to calibrate if it takes it than its fine if it doesn't than need software update.

The transmission ECU may or may not need a software update. This has nothing to do with the clutch. When you remove the trans and/or replace the clutch actuator and/or replace the clutch. It has to be calibrated. This can be done with Premium Tech Tool w/programming upgrade, but unless you work on Volvo's, it's not worth the cost to do just one truck.

That can only be done if the mechanic has Tech Tool diagnostic software. Some small shops don't.

What can happen if the programming wasn't set up properly?
