My 07 379 is shaking/hopping between 55-70 mph. Most evident between 60-65. It is intermittent at times. Acert, single turbo, 18spd. 3.36's, flex-air. I used to notice a slight hop but not enough or consistent enough to get my full attention. Then one day the rubber around the carrier bearing went out, so I had it replaced on the road at a Petro. I still had the shake going on about the same after that. I got pretty busy and ran hard for a while and the shaking seemed to be getting more and more evident, so I had the driveline balanced and the u-joints replaced and it didn't help it at all. What's next? I'm thinking pilot bearing, clutch, trans, diffs, in that order.
Also, anyone ever replaced their crankshaft dampener? I've got 1.13m miles.

My friend had his carrier bearing replaced and his truck started shaking too, but only at certain speeds.

He was adamant about balancing the driveshaft.

Since he never replaced his rear shocks, I suggested that.

    The vibration went away.

I have heard of harmonic balancers going bad, not sure what that's like, could be an axle bearing, engine mounts, driveshaft balancing, the list goes on, it's very frustrating.

Thanks for the replies. I had a truck with this same issue and had the driveline balanced and it didn't help, so I went deeper and replaced the front diff, and that didn't help either. I took the driveline to a different driveline shop and they said it was in bad shape and fixed it. I put it on and was happy with it, but that was a different truck years ago.
I will jack the wheels up to check the bearings again, but I'm almost certain that isn't it. I checked for slack in them recently.
I would like to rare back and do the crankshaft dampener, motor mounts, clutch, trans, and both diffs, but it would cost a lot.
I promise to report back to this thread when I figure this out.

Any abnormal wear on your steer tires?

Do you have centramatic balancers on your steering axle hubs? Or equal in your tires? You can only have one or the other. Also, check your tie rod ends and draglink.

I put it up on jack stands and let it idle in high gear. 3rd shaft wasn’t balanced the other day and it has a slight wobble while rolling. I took it out and let the front axle alone idle in high gear and outside duals had a slight wobble. Also I noticed a good amount of gear lash slack in that front diff when just rolling the duals by hand while watching the yoke. I’m going to see about having the 3rd shaft repaired or get a new one.

I have equal in the steers. I’ll check for slack in the front end too, but I think my troubles are coming from the drivetrain somewhere. Maybe a combination of a few things.
