I bought a 86 359 a while back that needed a new ac condensor and some new hoses...in the process of getting everything back together I noticed the compressor has the fitting on the top of the head broke off. So I got to wondering about converting from my york style compressor to a sanden style. Anybody know what it takes? Will it bolt right up or will I need a new bracket? If anybody has part numbers that'd be great. Thanks

If it's a BC Cummins, good luck getting that inside bolt next to the block out. I had bend a "special" wrench to do that.

We got a 359 Pete with a B Model cat that has a Sanden style AC compressor. That's what it had so I'm not sure how it got done but it looks like a normal 379 AC compressor mounting bracket.

I converted my Truck, 2001 Freightliner with Detroit. What I used is steel square tubing. 2 pieces. Between bracket and Sanders compressor. Bolts don’t line up. I think it’s 1.5”x1.5” steel tube. Just enough room. Also used the same belt, The Sanden pulley is smaller. You might want to use 1.5” x 2” steel tube.Gives a little extra height for bolts/ nuts. I just eyeballed it, checked with a straight edge, also checked position on belt tensioner. You probably don’t have a tensioner to complicate things. Using 1.5-2.0” tube should still be able to use original length belt. Lots of options, on set up. Best to find a Sh715 with same pulley and plug. Hoses are another story. Either adapters, with fittings. Removable fittings, of swapping head on new compressor, with compatible one. I’ve done both. Finally got new style ends welded to nuts. Now I can get a hose made up anywhere, and screw my ends on. If you need help, pm Me with original compressor part # , I’ll look in my catalog, figure out your best bet.Sometimes the compressor you need is hard to get and double the price. Going with a set up that allows for a common compressor readily available is very important IMO. I went with new Sanders, SHD715. It has a fuse in clutch, that blows if compressor locks up, Allows it to still run on idler, without needing to short belt it. That’s for my system. All depends on what you want/ need. Wether they’re any other things , alt. Etc on same belt. Usually Old Pete’s have a dedicated dbl. belt for a/c. Good Luck. It’s very doable. 3 or 4 different ways to get there.

Someone that has a MEI/ Air resource HVAC catalog can give you the conversion kit P/N. Basically, brackets go around Sanden so it bolts up like a York style compressor.
