Anyone know of a good company with work out of WV? Any ideas or company names appreciated. My husband has his CDL A with hazmat endorsement. Unfortunately, the only experience he has is a CDL school (a technical school, not a school run by a truck company). Any ideas or direction is appreciated.

Have him check out the oilfield companies that are now working in the area.

There are way too many to list but now that they are producing on the schale
that they found quite a few years ago there will be plenty of oilfield work for
    awhile now.

to be totally honest with you... Most local jobs here require atleast 2 years verifyable experience with a carrier or they will not touch you. Unless you can get someone to lie for you...

Where in WV do you live, if you don't mind me asking?

Randolph County, right by Elkins. I emailed one place a while back and they said 2 years, but with CDL school they would only want 1 year of experience. Of course that didn't help, lol.

    WV Gal,

Has your husband ever considered hauling asphalt or gravel?

I live in Belfry, KY, but work in Lenore, WV for a small trucking company that is contracted with the Oldcastle Group.. (WV Paving, Mountain Enterprises, etc.) We haul gravel year round, and lay asphalt during the summer months. Not a lot to it... The hardest part is being in sync with the paver and not getting out of the hopper as you are being pushed. And getting your chains set right to spread the different sizes of gravel.

Most of the well known (read: better) companies will require 2 years exp. among other things. But there are smaller, more lenient companies out there that may give him a chance. But by and large, this year has been bad even for us. The work simply isn't there...

Best of luck with your search.

Thanks so much. My husband has been unemployed for a while now, and after no luck in looking for jobs, the state of WV offered him a scholarship for CDL school. It's a $4000 scholarship so he took it. So now that next week he finishes school officially, he will still be on unemployment for a few more weeks but he would like to find a job before it runs out. That's why I'm asking everywhere, and checking everywhere. Everyone has been helpful, thanx a million :biggrin_25519:

I have not been to Belfry seen I was in high school. I went over there to play a football game. How about the coal trucks? They are all cut back to a 4 day week in my area.

The majority of them are simply out of work. The rest of them are 5 and 6 days a week.

I haven't seen it this bad since the early 80's when coal went bust. I guess the next thing is highway construction (my forte') I heard that the state of KY is not releasing any money for highway improvements (other than bridges) in Pike, Floyd, Martin, and Letcher counties this year. I guess if I lose my job, I'll go back to the communications field after 10 years of driving, cause I ain't going back OTR for a long while due to our 2 toddlers.
