Background Check Scam
You recently were interviewed over the phone for what you thought was a job with a well-known company located in a far-off region of the US or overseas.
The fake company might have posted a help-wanted ad on a job website, or it might have contacted you when it found your resume on such a site.
Now things are looking good. You're told that as long as you pass a routine background check, you're in line for an in-person second-round interview.
The fake company's HR rep asks for your Social Security number and permission to access your credit history. Legitimate employers do request Social Security numbers to conduct background checks or credit checks -- but so do identity thieves.
Before giving out this information to an apparent employer, try to confirm that the job opportunity is legitimate. If the firm is well known, call its switchboard and ask to be connected to the HR rep to confirm that the person you've been dealing with really works there before handing over any personal data -- ideally before the initial interview.
If the company is unfamiliar, do a Web search for its name and phone number to find evidence that it really exists... or evidence that it is a scam.
This may or not be a scam, although this ad has been repeatedly run, so maybe they're not really a reputable company.

.
I checked Craig's list out back in February. All I found were scams.
If it isn't a local KNOWN company with a contact number. I would be wary of applying for any job listed there.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Most of the adds saying $50,000.00-54,000.00 avg yr. are J.B. Hunt wanting you to do all their crap work. So I think those are a scam also......LOL.
-
yea jb hunt is a big one i know a guy that was signed up for one of those local jobs and when he went to orientation they told him the local jobs were all filled so he would have to go otr and he told them good bye at orientation and they put on his dac he quit . how can they say you quit when you never sat in one of their seats ?
-
Because that's their way to screw the people that don't wanna work for them. I talked to one of their recruiters on the phone. I didn't realize it was for J.B. Hunt as the name is not on the add. He said you would gross over $1,000.00 a week but would only have to drive 1,500 miles # .40cpm. You get paid for all your stops so you do the math. That's alot of stops to make up that difference when you are getting I believe he told me $30.00 a stop........To much BS for me.

I have experienced the same for craigslist that site has gone to s*** ...the only thing there worth viewing are the rants and ravs...lol my hubby visits that area when he needs a good laugh. ....We both made the mistake of placing our resumes on there and responding to adds and there all scams! There getting pretty good at it to...the English is getting better and/or Americans are joining in the scamming world.

I can not for the life of me under stand why they keep placing ads like this.
