    Thanks.

I know you want as much steer axle weight as you can but like I said I just wasn’t sure how far up you could get away with on a tandem without having to really worry about being too heavy on one drive. I will probably be bringing a similar machine back again today so I’ll scale that as well.

I think sliding plate will keep your drives the same. But put more on steer, and less and trailer.

Moving your fifth wheel shifts weight all over on the tractor. Just like your tandems on a van trailer shift between trailer and drive weight when you slide them around..

With my Pete ( avatar) 262 wb, no matter what I did, I could never get more than 8-9,000 on the steer. Moving the 5th wheel ahead actually would take weight OFF the steer and way over on the drives. I liked it because with manual steering, it was easier. I just went around the scales, which may or may not be an option today..

There aren’t too many scales around here however there are some that are essentially impossible to get around. I don’t voluntarily drive by scales if I can help it lol

I slid my 5th with a "full legal load" at a closed chicken house scale a few months ago. About 12" forward added about 1k to the steer and it was noticably more determined to center the steering wheel, harder to steer i guess you could say.

I dont think the spread changed at all, from memory. Weight came off the drives.

I could scale 78,000, but any more than that, I didn't even bother checking, like I say, no matter what I tried, I couldn't get rid of that 2000lbs and many times, container chassis' had no slider. Not to say I didn't luck out a few times. Sometimes, the scales were more interested in your tandem weight and you could roll the steer right over. That was a good day.

Has absolutely no bearing on trailer wieght.

not possible. It would take wieght from drives and transfer to the steer axle. Basic grade nine physics will back this up.
