Depends on how hard she intends to run it, and how deep her coin purse is.
The GMC in my back yard is my son's, so I'm not invested in it other than a place to store it. It's a 4 door extra short bed high mile cream puff. I think he plans to pay some amigos to rebuild it cheap, probably in the $600-800 range if I recall correctly. Seems like the cheapesrt remans were in the $12-1400 range plus labor. It's got a nearly worn out 4.8L under the hood, so not worth doing more than the bare minimum to get it back in the road, in our case.

May be as simple as a solenoid, or could be a valve body problem if R / 1 / 2 still works. Think my 92 was last year of the mechanical governors.

I'll just leave this here....

Nice ride!!! -
Its either a 4L60 or a 700r4, if its the 60 and she lost 3/4, most likely the sunshell is completely cracked at the neck. They are bad about doing that. 3/4 clutch failures are common too.
I bought a kit for my 4L60 from Dana at probuilt automatics with a heat treated sunshell, better clutches, better servos, kevlar parts, sonnax and transgo racing shift kits. It basically addressed everything wrong with the 4L60 from the factory for $650.
Then of course you have to pay someone to rebuild it. Most shops would charge about $400 to pull and put back in, but its easy to do yourself. Just pull the driveshaft, unbolt from the rear crossmember, remove the cable, two fluid lines, 8 or 9 bolts on the bell housing and three on the flywheel. Put a jack underneat and lift it and slide it out.
So you could have someone rebuild it for 500 with the $650 kit, new converter for probably 150 which recommend the trailblazer ss for a stock vehicle. 1200 to 1300 total if you install and will last foreverLast edited: Aug 29, 2019

Your point is great. Before you remove and replace you need to check trouble codes. Could limit the 3/4 shift. Then is the fluid clean. Electrical issue very possible with clean fluid. Then after that is 3/4 non existent or does it act like it shifts then quits? Can you go back to second and it will resume operation? Either way then it's a spragg or 3/4 pack. Just hate to see a trans RxR and have it shift the same.Feedman, 1951 ford, Art Vandelay and 7 others Thank this. -
