Unfortunately, I don't think the 49 MHz idea will take off :( … I am hearing more and more drivers on 2 meters, both repeaters and simplex (146.520), that's cool, the more the merrier :)

Most of the first post is Greek to me. But it sounds like someone knows enough to make their own radio.

Yep, I'm sure all the Hams will be Making Merry when they are joined on 2 meters by the CB crowd, especially since the repeaters will allow a "party line" of participants within a hundred miles or more. :)

Isn't that the case in some parts of the country already?

I wouldn't know, my 980 works with the antenna in the roof, I actually met an oversize on a narrow 2 lane, and he asked if I was ok, I didn't want to meet him on the curve, so I had slowed up quickly.

We had a guy running amatuer equipment with the ticket, but he retired and I never see him anymore to ask.

He used to run a Kenwood 720 converted for cb, iirc.

I'm starting to think it will be easier to encourage the Class A operators to study for and get their Technician Ham Tickets, than to create a new cb service... The Tech is easier to get than the Class A by a long shot...

Too bad nobody makes one nowadays.
Even Ameritron can't build one right. Everything went downhill when Toshiba stopped making 2sc2879 transistors.

Doesn't matter what frequency you use, if people get on there acting stupid other operators will shy away from that frequency. If people leave the frequency it isn't going to matter which you are using. Better to encourage good operating practices, ignore the DA's after a while hopefully they'll get tired of no response and find other ways to waste their time.
