Shopping for a flatbed trailer

Not in a side kit. And trailer last longer.

 

No spread the weight. You can haul 40k coils on 12 inch crossmember. Its after that the 6 inch is important. Far as I care you can put a 40k in the front and a 40k in the rear. But I dont like anything over 44k in the center.

 

Some of us aint pulling covered wagons lol i wish tho . yall get in and out real fast , unless its a tmc wagon they take their sweet ### time with everything

 

My heavy steel loads are typically a single 47,000+ coil. So you bet your sweet bippy I'm belly loading that sucker. At that weight, I'm more concerned about legal axle weights than trailer damage.

DOT doesn't ticket me for putting additional stress on one section of the trailer. The tickets for over axle weight, on the other hand, get real interesting and pricey.

 

So you typically load them around 10 feet or so from the nose and tail with 20 feet between the two coils?

There isnt much you can do with a single slab or coil.......
They do make trailers specific to the needs of coil hauling-

Shorter wagons with Super strong Crossmembers on 12" concentrated from front to back- All steel- Very strong .

 

I still wouldn't take a used steel hauler trailer if someone offered it free with a bonus evening with the lady of your choice. Steel hauling trailers get the snot pounded out of them, probably worse than any flatbed trailer out there short of the gas/oil field runners. Even specced out coil package trailers are rode hard and put away wet on a regular basis.

Looking for a used flatbed? Look for something that did general sticks and bricks commodities. Sure, the weights are heavy, but they are also spread out the length of the trailer, significantly reducing the overall stress of the trailer.

 

I think it's closer to 14 feet from the front.
