I just got home from a road trip up to NW Indiana to have a sit down with a few companies today. I have to say that your right about the PGT trucks that I see rolling up and down HWY 231, kind of trashy looking. The PGT yard in Gary is about the same as those trucks.

The second company that I went to see today hauls out of Steel Tech. I have to say that their company is much smaller than PGT, but they had much nicer facilities and better looking equipment on their yard. Also, after talking with the President of the company for about an hour, I walked out of their feeling much better about their small/mid size company than I did about PGT.

I have been talking with any of the steel haulers that I could catch sitting still. LOL It sounds like there are good ones and bad ones when it comes to mills. Just like every other thing I have ever done, I take the bad with the good til I can't take no more. :)

With the company I am leased to, seems like the shingle loads pay more all in all than the steel mills in Northern Indiana. NAS down in Ghent KY has good rates though.

Dont get too caught up in the commodity youre hauling. If it dont pay, dont play. I got a $3/mi load of steel to alabama out of bayou steel in harriman TN. Seemed great until they took 10hrs to load me and caused me to miss the drop appt and screw up the entire next day.

Youll do good triangulating around home. Aim for alabama as much as you can.
