Everyone has their priorities. Right now I'm enjoying doing what I'm doing, but I know that switching to ltl later in life might suck if I don't get lucky, being at the bottom seniority wise, and I don't know that I want to run a ramp the rest of my life.
I'm planning on moving in a few years, that decision can happen then.Cardfan89 Thanks this. -
Depends where you go, I think. Some freight lines are a lot easier to work for than others. R+L and Estes seem to be the best in my experience.Northeasterner, Cardfan89 and McUzi Thank this.

A lot of city drivers (from my observation) seem to hold linehaul as an anathema to their driving careers, things like not wanting to work more than 9 hours, not wanting to perform logging functions (city drivers have the shorthaul exemption enabled in their ELD profiles) etc.
But, also consider that with how FXF runs their freight lanes. A lot of times Central will call the shot on dumping it on an available city driver so that the freight "makes service" instead of waiting for the available linehaul guys to finish their 10, and with the anathema mentality alot of the senior city drivers seem to have, they pass it down to the last guy.Northeasterner and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
I was the exact opposite. Line haul was my goal so I could see what it was like to cover ground and get some big miles in without having to live in a truck and still being able to live my life without giving up everything I like to do.Northeasterner Thanks this.

I noticed that about some. I don’t understand why though. That’s the easiest money they could make.
They’re usually the ones with the late pickups in their territory getting handed out to whoever it is that dispatchers feel deserves to be punished. That’s how enemies are made around these parts.
With as far away as I go it’s rare that I get away with only a 9 hour day.
As for extra linehaul runs I’ll take all of those I can get, and I usually have to raise hell to do it.Gearjammin' Penguin, misterG, Texas_hwy_287 and 2 others Thank this. -

Let me get this straight, you're running LTL w/ a 53ft reefer?!?
alds, FlaSwampRat and jmz Thank this. -
I do it every week. This week it’ll be 10 stops between Okc and Dallas. Then probably do some local stuff around Dfw anywhere from 3-15+ stops, then load up and head toward the house.alds, Northeasterner and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this.

My previous job was like that. Technically called "refrigerated LTL." Not to be confused with LTL "freight." It's a whole different ballgame that doesn't even remotely resemble what most of us think of when we hear LTL, except for the fact that each individual shipment is small. The fun part is dealing with all the grocery warehouses and lumpers or doing all the sort/seg yourself!alds, Northeasterner, misterG and 3 others Thank this.
