Test drives and diagnosis is part the job.

Auto mechanics don't get paid for test drives.

Unfortunately....in trucking, they don't care, no such thing as a courtesy test drive, diagnosis these days.
    Pitiful.
Remember, all truckers have billfolds full of cash

It depends on the place. Hook up a computer $125. Takes 10 minutes. Smh. The hourly is usually near a $100. Pretty big disparity between hourly rates. Some are 60 to a 185.

    Computer diagnostics is one thing

I'm just talking test drives for driveability problems.

No offense to the diesel mechanics on here.

But those of us that turned wrenches before trucking.

It's a whole different world between auto and diesel shops.

I never get a sweet un for that kind of money.. why should I pay Mr loutish whiskers to abuse my truck for a hour after trying to make it work again....

With luck it'll jerk twice leaving the shop and then be yelled at for not knowing how to drive...

//snarky. Im one of those moods today. I'll post later tonight when things clear up.

I took my truck to the mechanic last week for a water leak and when asked him to adjust the fifth wheel while I was there which he did but I went to his place without trailer hooked to the truck.

He said check if this adjustment fixed the problem which I think that was the only cause of the problem because there is still a little jerk movement but it's not as bad as before.

I think fifth wheel just need to be adjusted a bit more.

Hope it is that simple. Don't know how old your fifth wheel is. Or if you pull the same trailer all the time. Playing with adjustment could be good or bad. All i am saying is make sure you are getting a "sure lock" on the king pin. Old fifth wheels( 5 yrs, give or take) can have rusted springs, and lots of wear, depending on lube intervals. Last thing you need is a dropped wagon. Could be a nightmare if on the road.
