I cracks me up when you see in truck trader or other ads pre emissions. EPA started regulating diesel engines in 1974. Ad should say, pre DPF.

I would say so. The emission data sticker on my 3406A says it meets EPA regulations applicable to the 1979 model year.

Anything before 2008 is fine.....the mbn wouldn’t be my first choice but that’s me.

    I'm glad I have a mechanical engine.

Just reading that gave me a headache.

So what’s the last year Cat made an engine with no dpf or def? What’s the last year Cat twin turbo Acerts didn’t have dpf or def. And can they be converted to single turbo easily? Or are their other problems to consider? Simply, what’s the last year Cat that’s safe to buy, without a bunch of problems?

Cat followed the same EPA regulations as everyone else. Only difference was they used Acert instead of EGR.

I consider all cats good right up to the sdp/lee which had a dpf.
People seem to think the twin turbos arent reliable but I have had really good luck with them. Iva problems seem exaggerated.
I wouldnt single turbo a twin. Delete files are so so at best, compression ratio should be adjusted as well. Only way i would do it is with a proper ecm, harnesses and kits but that gets expensive.
Recently had a customer with a mxs with 3.4 million k, platinum kit done at 1.7 mil just for preventative. Liners looked new and bearings were excellent then. Did a front seal since then otherwise never touched.

What year did the sdp come out? What Acert engines were the subject of the lawsuit?

    Intothesunset Thanks this.
