Looking at an 05 C15. Has had a new cam, pistons, liners, rod and main bearings in the last 100k. I'm not a mechanic, so are those really good repairs? Would you be worried about something else failing soon? Truck overall looked clean. Thanks for your input!
How would you feel about this engine?

Get an oil sample, Dyno if possible. If there is a Cat Dealer around might have them go through it. Also get an ECM download.

100K of what? 150K or 1.5 million or whatever if you cannot view the original papers generated by the overall overhaul (It is pretty much one...) It's drastic type of rebuild.
I don't want it for that. -
Nothing wrong with that. A basic inframe overhaul. As long as there’s paperwork from a reputable shop.I wouldn’t mind seeing a reman head, maybe some new injectors, and a new oil pump.Id feel confident for 1 mil miles. As is, I might not be surprised if an injector goes bad, or the head cracks. I guess it depends on condition of head. And how many miles are on it now.
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Truck is at 870k, everything but the cam has 30k on them. How much does HP play into things? At average ratings. This engine is rated at 475. I wouldn't be scared if something was at 500 or 550 HP. But when I see trucks at 600 or 700 HP I worry it's been rode hard. Unless it's a C16.

Thats the problem we been piddling about with 500 horse. Might as well double that. Im sure germany has many deisel 1000 hp spares laying about unused since their vaunted tank army has rotted these last 15 years.

Any paperwork, as far as what brand parts were used? Generally a head is included in an inframe, if the old head was reused untouched, I would wonder if this was not a cheap inframe, using cheap aftermarket parts.

Yeah, sounds like they were short on cash. Needed to get it fixed, not planning on keeping very long. If they used good quality parts. I might still consider buying it. Price would have to be right, though. New head, probably costs $2000, or more. Injectors, for a cat, ? $2500 or more? Add at leadt $2000 labor. It’s probably a twin turbo. Price those out. Make sure you’re sitting down first. Converting to a single, from what I understand, costs just as much. But who’s to say? It may go another 600 k before needing a head or injectors. The seller obviously doesn’t want to find out.
