Older trucks were 'gear bound' while todays trucks focus on reducing rolling resistance.

Old R model Macks with the Maxitorque 5 speed [signs said hill ahead; Macks downshift NOW!] and with only 5 gears the torque was hard to control in 1st gear when rolling over uneven surfaces.

Part throttle caused surging as the bumps were transmitted to the throttle. The only smooth way was foot off the pedal -or- mashed down against the stop

Walking beams took care of the uneven. I crawled a 6 speed over boulders twice daily at times.

Yes this is my trailer so it's same one always.

I have no idea how old is the fifth wheel but it looks hooked up pretty good. The truck is 2002.

And I see no light/space between trailer and the fifth wheel.

hey everyone, I have volvo 2018 vnl 670 with 870k miles. I did transmission clutch 100k miles ago. It is ishift transmission. When i put gear to reverse, the truck is jerking even bobtail and with a trailer. I did not take it to shop yet. i hope it is not transmiision issue. Anyone had the same issue?
