I am going to use a three magnet roof mount for a 6ft skip shooter. I need to angle it forward from the fiberglass roof extension of the sleeper cab.
Is there any reason a ball mounts can not be mounted onto the plate of the magnet mount and work.

nope, none whatsoever...do what ya have to do!
-
Why do you have to lean it forward?
-
Hits the fiberglass.
-
The fiberglass probably won't bother it as far as performance goes. Stick a tennis ball on the antenna to keep from scarring up the fiberglass and run with it.
-
What color tennis ball?
-
Blue balls hes a trucker, they get that color from people busting them.
mike5511 and olddog_newtricks Thank this. -
Define "work".
Just because it functions somewhat doesn't mean it couldn't be 10 times better. Lifting your feed point 2" above the surface of your roof is definitely going to hurt the performance. -
Does that happen with those spring mounts as well? Worked for a place that insisted on them to save on broken antennas.

It's all about the feed point location in relationship to the flat metal surface of a roof of a car. You can add as many Springs as you want to the base of the antenna without having an adverse effect Since the RF is traveling through the Springs. Normally the feed point of the antenna would be inside the vehicle for best performance. As you elevate the feed point away from the sheet metal surface the performance degrades drastically in direct proportion to that distance.speedyk and Powder Joints Thank this.
