I've been reading all of these threads about Blood Pressure and what it needs to be and what can happen to your qualification and all of that... but I haven't seen if you take meds for it does it pass you?
In other words... If you take BP meds and your BP is what it should be, is that good enough for the exam?

I ask because I have slightly high BP and was prescribed meds. Just recently I went off... because my BP has gotten better, but I'm wondering if I should just stay on them until after I test....
-
If the condition is under control, no longer needing medications. You should have no problems.
-
Get off the meds and dont eat for 4 days right before your exam

Stay on them. Certain medicines work a certain way.
I am using Alltenlol which is a old 50's era Beta Blocker directly acting on the heart itself. It knocks my BP to normal range. Otherwise I am in hypertension stage two and three constantly.
Its attributed to other medicines used over a decade that caused this damage. DOT requires 140/90 But it is not a reachable number except for two hours each day. That will be the time to get the BP test, physical etc done. I am not currently taking the medicine for two reasons, one I have a major testing day coming in a couple of months that will decide my future if any. The other is that doctors by policy do not prescribe it and when they did about twice a year at the ER they are taking on the State itself because they are not to prescribe anything that kills BP along with Painmanagement.
Make sure your BP is ok for the exam, no caf coffee etc. no big meals in the morning. That is the other problem that affects my BP so bad. If I had a complete western Omlette with all the trimmings and so forth it will put me beyond 170/120 in about a hour and keep me there all day.
Ive learned to volume out using fluids applied by drinking steady and sure. Something like a half gallon over 4 hours will take it back to below 140/90
I have said in the past that trucking is one possible future. Again when the heart surgeon finishes his imaging that day he is going to tell me if I have a future or not (Heart Failure slow or the need to replace at least one of three bad valves not covered by DOT exam. But should be) Hospice will be the other call when things get too difficult.
But not stopping medicines. Thats the best you can do for you. Its strange sometimes but the body if deprived of a medicine will sometimes work against you in ways you wont believe.
Thats my two cents anyhow. Good luck to you and yours.Matt1924, Metallica88 and Puppage Thank this. -

Yes, if you take BP meds and it is controlling it then it's no issue. You will only get a 1 year card if you're on BP meds fyi.

I have lowered my bp by diet. No eating before 10 am and after 6pm, one raw lemon daily, celery and fruits for snacks, no fatty food. I have limited my coffee x2.
Zoltan1a and FlaSwampRat Thank this.
