this is not a difficult swap really. you will need some rear motor mounts for a cummins in a pete. they are different. i think the front mount is the same. wiring and linkeages are close also. you will have minor things that as always will be the biggest pain. like hoses and exhaust and such but if you have a bit of mechanical creativeness it wont be too bad. driveline length should not change either. this is not the first time anybody has ever done this particular swap. it will help if you know a good salvage yard for a few needed parts also. good luck.

Yup, everything on that new Pete is going to want to talk to a computer on the engine. If your engine is a mechanical you won't have a ECM.
All the gauges are probably multiplexed, meaning they are run by there own computer that talks to the ECM on the engine. Not to mention the abs system that will be looking for a ECM also.
Not to say it can't be done, but it would entail a lot of work and money. Not worth it in my opion. You would be way better off finding a n14 or a 70 pin cat to put in that glider. A lot less headache. And really a lot better more refined engine.

its not all that hard I swapped my 855 with a 3406 b and I used my IH radiator and air charger because the 855 didn't have the air charger and the radiator was low flow the main thing is mounts front and back but I do have them and if u have a low flow I have got a radiator ill sell u if u need it my main thing is the cat was out of IH an I put it in a freight liner so that was the biggest reason for mount change I think plumbing is another thing II went to salvage yard an got boots and steel water line an just found what looked like it would work an all worked fine looks like it came that way wiring is not a problem at all common since is all it takes the rad went in the same place the other one did just added a plate an drilled 2 holes an bolted up support brackets will half to be rigged and u are done it took a while but it wasn't as hard as some make it out to be u can do it if u have worked on trucks any at all

Cummins just needs one wire to run, and you don't even have to have it, but the same ign wire the cat uses will work perfect. I would change the water temp sensors and use the ones off the cat to be consistent with the gauges in the truck.
No air to air to deal with, all in all it will be a pretty easy swap. I personally have not done one, but a friend of mine did, and it didn't take long at all.

Why would he need a new front cross member? As long as he has the matching front mount for the engine there would be no need to change cross member.

Because there are people out there who don't care or who aren't dead set on having one brand, and a mechanical 3406 isnt anything special.

HA HA, I did not notice the post was from 2011, I reckon he probably has completed his swap, and wore out that cummins by now. lol
