I don't really have a big problem with this because I got a really good rate on the run. Yesterday I bid on an Uber Freight load, only my second ever. It had a really long pickup number.......suspiciously like CH Robinson.
Uber is all automated so your phone just starts lighting up when you are on site, coming or going, on one of their loads. Today as soon as I hit the parking lot of my pick up, I got a message asking me to download the CHR Navisphere Driver app. ????? The load had no info about being affiliated with CHR of course.
I didn't ask the dock because, like I said, not real worried about it, but I found it pretty interesting.
I did not download their app nor are they tracking me through it. I was hoping they would press the issue but not yet. I'm still under it until Friday. If they asked again I would've refused and asked why they don't just broker under their own name?
Anyone else noticed this?

Uber and Amazon wants to bury CH robinson and all traditional brokearges.
First by increasing market share by paying near 100% of whatever the load paid. They have the cash to keep people paid and so on.
When traditional brokerages fail to find trucks sufficient, they go out of business leaving Uber and Amazon standing 10 years from now.
Guess what. You will now haul it for 40% what you are paid today and like it. 10 years from now.
I am not being combative. I just seek out a form of peace when I choose work to do that does not involve a app on my smart phone. I am in the process of destroying a year old phone that burned up under too many spam callers in the last two months and get a new number that in many cases will be strictly for me and several people. Not to be given out. I do run one app designed to eliminate secrets behind who is calling. (Related to Trap.com) and eventually real world information comes back on the caller themselves so you understand the situation before submitting if necessary a do not call complaint.
Caller ID such as it is is dead in the USA. We are specifically told to make a contact list with everyone we know in the world and reject any calls from strange numbers. And that there is the problem. 50+ strange callers per hour. Might as well pull battery and shoot phone. -
The history of Uber and Lyft is obvious. When they first start in a market for ride sharing they pay 85%-90%. Once they put enough taxi’s out of business they take a bigger cut. I tried making extra cash with Lyft. I quickly found out it’s a waste of time. With their fees the cut is in the 60/40 50/50 range. Essentially, I made $12 an hour and had to pay gas. Hopefully since trucking is more cut throat Uber freight will at best become another broker. -
If Uber thinks it’s losing money now just wait till they get deeper in the the trucking rate game.. After all they only loss 5.2 billon in the last quarter lol

Uber is in deep crap right now. California just passed a law requiring them to make drivers employees of Uber, and not contract labor. That means minimum wage, benefits, and overtime. This will completely destroy their business model, and they'll either pull out of the ride sharing business in California, or go out of business all together. Since they are already losing money on the freight end of their business and the ride sharing portion is supporting it, I expect this will mean the demise of Uber freight in the very near future leaving Convoy as the primary player in that market.

With that same California AB5 bill they just passed, it also eliminates the independent owner operator leased onto a company. That independent contractor will now have to become an employee.bigbyrc Thanks this. -
Uber has called me before when I was on a load for them for a location update or something. I don't remember why. I was surprised.SteveScott Thanks this. -
