My last dyno test showed I am getting about 670HP at the rear wheels. I have a Cat C-15 factory 625hp with a PDI system on It. 18speed transmisson 3:36 rear ends. I can feel my factory 2050 clutch slip on certain occasions. I also have a shake at idle, and shake in my mirrors, so I feel that I may have torn up my old clutch. What clutch do you guys have the best luck with? I have looked into the Eaton 2250 kit with the 14 spline shaft. I have also talked to Pittsburgh Power, and they prefer the Lipe Clutch. I have talked with PDI whose engine system I am running, and they also offer a high hp clutch. I have heard good and bad on all 3 options, and just wanted to get some opinions from guys who work on this kind of thing every day.

Also if anyone knows of a good clutch shop in the Midwest, that they are happy with, let me know. I am from Illinois, but can travel a bit if needed.

    Thanks

The question on the Eaton 2250 is how much is involved to change the shaft on your transmission....?

I’ve heard from a friend if you let the clutch settle in for a moment and roll the power on slowly the clutch will keep up...... he only gets about 400K out of his 2050 clutches.... his last truck with a 3406E never replaced the clutch it had 830K on it.

Don’t make things like they used to I guess.

Have you replaced the Torsional Dampener on it? Would also suggest a balancer with it if you replace it.

I've used the 2400# Lipe. They can actually hold close to 3000lbs if you ease into it. I've used the 2250 RhinoPac. They're not bad but I probably wouldn't buy another one. A 2250 will probably hold just fine if you're not planning on going any higher with the power. If you are, I'd consider something stronger like a 3500# Lipe.

    Thanks for all the replies!

I'm not positive, buy I think I will have to change the input shaft no matter which heavy clutch I go too. I will have to do a little more checking on that.

Yes I have replaced the Dampener with one from Pittsburgh Power, and I did also do the balancing ring too. This was all done last summer during my out of frame overhaul.

Sounds like Lipe has a good product. I had heard they have a bit different style of adjustment, but the tool comes with the kit.

I am going to try and find a NEW flywheel also. I have head some of these resurfaced ones are only as good as the table they are turned on, and can cause some out of balance issues. I just know finding NEW is hard to do these days, at least when you are talking injectors anyway.

2050 clutch should be more than enough. your hp is 650 but your torque didnt go up that much to make much of a difference over the 1850. If its slipping, i would say its out of adjustment or wore out. The shuttering while letting off the clutch or slipping the clutch is becuase your flywheel is trashed. Dont have it cut. Buy a new one

Obviously you're going to want to put a new input shaft in when you install the new clutch but if you're going with a Lipe, they use the same input shaft as a 2050 Eaton right up to 6300lbs.

Most say a acert with that package would put down about 2200 foot lbs....
