My insurance is coming due next month. Yesterday a agent called me and I started using some of the numbers new carrier’s was being quoted. Now this guy called me out of the blue and I can’t verify his credibility, however I don’t have any reason to doubt either. He is saying ballpark figure of $13,000 maybe little more depending on their setup coverage on truck new or old, radius of service. Now it is my belief coverage for new carrier does not have to be $30,000 When I started in 2008 is was like $8500 now I pay roughly 1/2 last year was $4800. Now my radius is 300 miles and I have older truck and 4 year old trailer. I have had a drivers license for 45 years, last speeding ticket in 1986. So you need to find a insurance company that specializes in truck insurance. Not Progressive, or Nationwide if they will insure you. Yes I know one he called me yesterday. Or mine that I have had since 2008. Find them they are out there.

Yes, insurance is something that has to shopped around. Progressive came into trucking offering low prices and then once they knocked out a lot of the competition their rates skyrocketed. You can still find reasonable commercial insurance, you just have to hunt for it.

As far as OOIDA, They claim to be all for helping the Independent, they say they can get you better prices on insurance and such. I’ve always been able to find better prices then they were offering on my own. I personally wouldn’t give OOIDA a dime.

I’ve search and called many insurance companies for the last month. I guess I’m contacting the wrong ones. Either they’re quoting me north of $20k or don’t offer insurance for new ventures. I’m ready to bite the bullet but was hoping to find something in the ballpark figure that everyone is stating. I’d appreciate if anyone can point me into the right directions. Feel free to message me

Talk with companies that specialize in truck insurance. Keep trying, when starting out Insurance cost are higher. They can not be so high that it keeps you from operating, try to find ways to lower the cost. When starting out it is difficult because you do not know the right this to ask. Like what you will be hauling? Where you will be going? I did not know that when I started. Think about it you are asking someone to insure you for things you don’t know about. Sure it is going to COST.

Ahh I know nothing about Cali other than I cant take my truck there and I can't drive 55...

TBH though I'd expect Cali insurance rates to be in line with the east coast.. Can you run with out doing cars? No cars is cheaper but my guess is you might be getting high rates simply due to no experience and living in a high population state.

Have you looked at leasing on with someone?

@Trident39 thanks for that info. I’m just starting out here in the PNW. Currently looking for insurance quotes before getting DOT#. What insurance company did you go with? Can you give any recommendations to contact?
