Are CB radios still worth it?

Times have changed, and I’d be surprised if a CB can beat Google maps (especially, Waze) as it will notify you about accidents, delays, and road closures way ahead. You do need to have AT&T or Verizon for this to work. I leave Google maps navigation running while driving. Google will tell me:

“There is a one hour delay on I-40. You can avoid it by taking so-and-so highway or road, which saves 30 min. Press cancel if you want to maintain your original route.”

    Or,

“There is a 20 min delay ahead. You are still on the fastest route.”

It’s the real deal, folks. A few years ago, it just dawned on me to have Google maps navigation running while driving. I think the problem was I was concerned about running out of data. That is no longer the case, as of early 2017.

Well. You asked a question here about the relevance of CB Radios, And we are telling you straight-

You wanna rely on that computer stuff,Fine......You asked a question We answered.

like I say- No Phone app will help you get her slowed down in time when something just happened a mile or 2 in front of you......

Hearing a real Humans voice over some computer app is far more refreshing and believable in bad weather- Fog-Snow etc-

Some things are better left alone

I get a kick out of the I don't need a cb crowd. What kind of app tells you you have a low tire, or an oil, fuel, water leak, a wheel is loose and wobbling, a strap has some slack in it or any number of a multitude of things that can, will and does happen everyday somewhere on the road.
A cb is one of the most important tools of trucking if used and listened to, you can't just turn it on when you want to say something though.

I think some will say you need a better CB or fix your radio reception for clarity.

It is a Cobra 29 from the truck stop. I followed an oversize load on the interstate for an hour the other day and listened to him communicate with his pilot cars. I really couldn't make out most of it.

I've been using Cricket for years. What it loses in coverage it more than makes up for in monthly cost. And it has worked everywhere my expensive Verizon service did, and in a few places Verizon didn't. And we run 48 states and the southern tier of Canada. Cricket is all you need. I even used Straight Talk from Wal Mart for a spell. It worked ok too. Cricket is cheaper.

I just can't even imagine leaving the yard without a working CB.

As others have said----- instant critical road information : developing situations such as wrecks and stopped traffic. I can't tell you how many times I have been given a "heads up" or given others an alert that has been VERY helpful and appreciated.

Try stopping quick on a narrow two lane twisting road just as your pitching down a 12%er in a snow storm without one word of warning from the guy chugging up the other side that there is 4 wheeler sideways in the snow bank.

How many times have we all tried to alert a passing trailer of a critical issue (public safety perhaps) and not received any acknowledgement. SMH

I often see trucks on the side of the road and am almost always willing to stop and help if they're having a problem , so I give them a shout. Half the time I don't even get a response. I'm dam sure not gonna waste my time stopping to see what they need if it turns out they're just taking a whiz.

Bottom line : it's a tool. You may not need it every day but you'll be glad you had with you if you do need it. Seriously.
