I have just finished school and going to orientation next week. Tell some history of me..... I used to be a mechanic for 19 years. Been around trucks all my life, basically working on them. I am now going to move to the other side. I am excited and hope I do a very good job, I do know how the economy is not great right now. I hope it does get better in the future. I am going to do my best take all the loads I can and show them that I can GIT "R" DONE. I know I am a newbie and have a lot to learn, I will take in every little advise I can so I can be the best driver that I can be. If anyone has any tips or can be helpful, as I would greatly appreciate it. THANKS TO YOU ALL!!
I start with Roehl 07/06/09... any help or tips

Hey Big, I guess you will be going to Ellenwood for your orientation and start your training there also. Pack yourself a good shower bag and take a extra towel. If you sleep at the Richmond yard, you can shower but you will need a towel. You will be getting a lot of training for 3 weeks. Roehl has some good trainers. Get through the training and into your own truck and thats when things get better.
I'm no longer with Roehl, but if I can help you anyway on this puter, let me know. Best of luck to you..wulfsbergvw and BIGcountrySC Thank this. -
Thanks rim, for the info very helpful info. What I have read and heard sounds like a good company to work for. Are they good about getting you with a trainer pretty quick? I do know that they may have some delays as they are coming back to terminal. I am excited to get it started!

Congratulations. I think your experience as a mechanic will serve you well. Not saying that Roehl has crap equipment
, but even good trucks have problems from time to time. It will definitely be an asset if you ever decide to buy a rig. You will be able to save a lot of money if you can make some repairs yourself.

I have decided on Roehl also. I go to orientation in Ellenwood on 7/20/09. Should I drive down and leave my car there or have my wife drop me off? If they don't have a trainer available, having a car there would make life a bit easier.

I just got out of orientation at the Ellenwood GA. terminal. If you were in my class I'm taking a guess by your sign name that you are Robbie. I sat 2 down from you. Enjoy your weekend home.

Rimshot-
you say that you are no longer with Roehl. I am asuming by that comment you have worked with them in the past? I am going to be taking a driving class at a local college near where I live. After I get done I am looking to apply with Roehl. What can you tell me about the company? How is it for new hires. Is it true that all new hires are paid per diem or is there a choice? All in all is it a good first company to work for? -
how are things going for you? I am in my own truck now just trying to get settled in.

I start with Roehl the first or second week in October. I chose them after my school recommended Roehl as well as the research I did.
I hope I did right!? I have my HAZMAT, Tanker endorsements and studying for triples and doubles. I also am working on getting my passport.
